چکیده

An electrochemically-active high-temperature form of LiCoO2 (HT-LiCoO2) is prepared by thermally decomposing its constituent metal-nitrates at 700 oC. The synthetic conditions have been optimized to achieve improved performance with the HT-LiCoO2 cathode in Li-ion batteries. For this purpose, the synthesized materials have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and galvanostatic charge-discharge cycling. Cathodes comprising HT-LiCoO2 exhibit a specific capacity of 140 mAhg with good capacity-retention over several charge-discharge cycles in the voltage range between 3.5 V and 4.2 V, and can sustain improved rate capability in contrast to a cathode constituting LiCoO2 prepared by conventional ceramic method. The nitrate-melt-decomposition method is also found effective for synthesizing Mg-/Aldoped HT-LiCoO2; these also are investigated as cathode materials for Li-ion batteries.

Electrochemical Characterization of Low-Cost Lithium-Iron Orthosilicate Samples as Cathode Materials of Lithium-Ion Battery

Lithium-iron-orthosilicate is one of the most promising cathode materials for Li-ion batteries due to its safety, environmental brightness and potentially low cost. In order to produce a low cost cathode material, Li2FeSiO4/C samples are synthesized via sol-gel (SG; one sample) and solid state (SS; two samples with different carbon content), starting from Fe (III) in the raw materials (lo...

Electrode Materials for Lithium Ion Batteries: A Review

Electrochemical energy storage systems are categorized into different types, according to their mechanisms, including capacitors, supercapacitors, batteries and fuel cells. All battery systems include some main components: anode, cathode, an aqueous/non-aqueous electrolyte and a membrane that separates anode and cathode while being permeable to ions. Being one of the key parts of any new electr...

Nanostructured Vanadium Oxide Electrodes for Enhanced Lithium-Ion Intercalation

Intercalation-electrode materials are electroactive and serve as host solids into which guest species are reversibly intercalated from an electrolyte. Currently there are three intercalation materials that are used commercially as positive-electrode materials in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries: LiCoO2, LiNiO2, and LiMn2O4. LiCoO2 is the most popular among the possible cathode materials becau...

Facile Synthesis of V2O5 Hollow Spheres as Advanced Cathodes for High-Performance Lithium-Ion Batteries

Three-dimensional V2O5 hollow structures have been prepared through a simple synthesis strategy combining solvothermal treatment and a subsequent thermal annealing. The V2O5 materials are composed of microspheres 2–3 μm in diameter and with a distinct hollow interior. The as-synthesized V2O5 hollow microspheres, when evaluated as a cathode material for lithium-ion batteries, can deliver a speci...
