SLAC-PUB- 1494 October 1974 (T/E) SEARCH FOR HIGHLY CHARGED PARTICLES IN THE COSMIC RAYS
نویسنده
چکیده
The recently obtained results on e+ehadrons and multigamma production in pp collisions provide some support for a previously made argument that heavy, highly charged subnucleons may exist, and a search for such particles in the cosmic rays has been made. In 620 hours no candidates were detected, and an upper limit for the unaccompanied particle flux of 7 . 10 -10 cm-2sec-lsr-l at sea level under 600 g/cm2 concrete is obtained with 90% confidence. : (Submitted to Nucl. Time Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation
Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...
متن کاملGeomagnetic Field Eect over Azimuth Anisotropy of Cosmic Rays via Study of Primary Particles
Geomagnetic field is a one of the candidates for creation of anisotropy in azimuth distribution of extensive air showers over the entered cosmic rays to the atmosphere. Here we present the question: Is there any azimuth anisotropy flux in the upper level of the atmosphere due to the geomagnetic field over the entered cosmic-rays? The obtained answer is: yes. This investigation showed an agreeme...
متن کاملCosmic Ray e + / ( e − + e + ) , p / p Ratios Explained by an Injection Model Based on 1 Gamma - ray Observations
5 6 We present a model of cosmic ray (CR) injection into the Galactic space based on recent γ-ray observations of supernova remnants (SNRs) and pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe) by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi) and atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (ACTs). Steady-state (SS) injection of nuclear particles and electrons (e−) from the Galactic ensemble of SNRs, and electrons and positrons (e+) fr...
متن کاملOrigin and Propagation of Cosmic Rays (some Highlights)
The detection of high-energy particles, cosmic rays (CRs), deep inside the heliosphere implies that there are, at least, three distinctly different stages in the lifetime of a CR particle: acceleration, propagation in the interstellar medium (ISM), and propagation in the heliosphere. Gamma rays produced by interactions of CRs with gas, radiation, and magnetic fields can be used to study their s...
متن کاملLaboratory Laser Acceleration and High Energy Astrophysics: γ–ray Bursts and Cosmic Rays
Recent experimental progress in laser acceleration of charged particles (electrons) and its associated processes has shown that intense electromagnetic pulses can promptly accelerate charged particles to high energies and that their energy spectrum is quite hard. On the other hand some of the high energy astrophysical phenomena such as extremely high energy cosmic rays and energetic components ...
