Isotopic dependence of fusion cross sections in reactions with heavy nuclei

چکیده
The dependence of fusion cross section on the isotopic composition of colliding nuclei is analysed within the dinuclear system concept for compound nucleus formation. Probabilities of fusion and surviving probabilities, ingredients of the evaporation residue cross sections, depend decisively on the neutron numbers of the dinuclear system. Evaporation residue cross sections for the production of actinides and superheavy nuclei, listed in table form, are discussed and compared with existing experimental data. Neutron-rich radioactive projectiles are shown to lead to similar fusion cross sections as

Semi-microscopic calculations of the fusion barrier distributions for reactions involving deformed target nuclei
The double-folding model with an M3Y effective nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction was applied to obtain the angle-dependent bare nucleus-nucleus potential for heavy-ion fusion reactions involving deformed target nuclei. The angular dependence with a zero-range exchange NN interaction is almost identical to that with a finite-range interaction, allowing quick calculations of the fusion cross secti...

The knowledge of nuclear reaction rates is important for studying energy production and nucleosynthesis, especially in reactions including nuclei far from stability line, which are not accessible experimentally so far and thus it is necessary to be able to predict reaction cross sections in low excitation energies. Nuclear level density is one of the important key quantities in many nuclear phy...
متن کاملMeasurement of the fusion probability, PCN, for hot fusion reactions
Background: The cross section for forming a heavy evaporation residue in fusion reactions depends on the capture cross section, the fusion probability, PCN, i.e., the probability that the projectile-target system will evolve inside the fission saddle point to form a completely fused system rather than reseparating (quasifission), and the survival of the completely fused system against fission. ...
متن کاملTowards the fusion of weakly bound projectiles with heavy tar- gets with proximity based potentials
Theoretical calculations using proximity based potentials are performed to predict the fusion cross sections of the reactions of weakly bound projectiles especially halo nuclei with 209Bi target. Both neutron halo as well as proton halo projectiles are taken in the present analysis. In particular, we study the role of extended nuclear radii of these weakly bound nuclei on the fusion cross secti...

The structure of nuclei that lie at the edges of stability in the nuclear landscape hold the most discovery potential for new physics. While nuclei along the proton and neutron drip-lines reveal stellar nucleosynthesis pathways, very heavy high-Z nuclei, whose fragility stems from enhanced Coulomb repulsion, lead us towards superheavy physics. The island of superheavy nuclei predicted to lie at...
