Putting Hardware-software Codesign Into
نویسندگان
چکیده
This contribution reports on an approach to hardware/software codesign based on a state transition system design language MAD. MAD has been used for software design for some time, but is now being extended to hardware design by adding the hardware description language VHDL as one of its target languages. The experience of adding a new dimension (i.e. hardware) to the design space and of dealing with some state-of-the-art hardware development methods and tools is presented. The approach is illustrated with an implementation of a control system for an elevator.

متن کاملHardware/Software Codesign Overview
The Hardware/Software Codesign Overview module is intended to introduce the hardware/software codesign to the practicing design, software, and systems engineers, and to the senior undergraduate or first year graduate student. The module provides key codesign concepts and attempts to show the benefits of the codesign approach over the current design process. The module consists of eight sections...
متن کاملA Case Study in Hardware-Software Codesign of Distributed Systems - Vehicle Parking Management System
Hardware-software codesign of distributed systems is a more challenging task than that of centralized embedded systems. Each phase of codesign, such as copartitioning, cosynthesis, cosimulation, and coverification, must take into account physical restrictions imposed by the distributed nature of such systems. Although codesign of distributed systems is more complex, yet many common parts of the...
متن کاملTrade-Offs in HW/SW Codesign
HW/SW codesign is becoming an increasingly more interesting research field because most practical systems consist of both HW and SW. In this paper we explore a bottom up HW/SW codesign strategy to investigate trade-offs in time behavior and area. A comparison of hardware and software implementations of low level modules is given. A first prototype implementation extracts time and area criteria ...
متن کاملWill hardware and software be codesigned?
THE DREAM OF true hardware-software codesign of complex electronic products has been in people’s minds for many years. A quick Google search will find references going back to the early 1990s, and many of the system-level design approaches and research of the 1980s assumed some flexibility in the interface between hardware and software. The international symposium on hardware/software codesign ...
