Modeling of thermo-physical processes in liquid ceramic precursor droplets injected into a plasma jet

چکیده
Modeling of liquid ceramic precursor droplets axially injected into a plasma is presented. Droplets undergo heating and solvent vaporization leading to high solute concentration near droplet surface. At a critical solute super-saturation concentration, precipitation is postulated to occur forming a precipitate shell around liquid core. Internal pressurization and rupture of shell occur subsequently. Droplet size, shell porosity and thickness effects were studied. Timescales of internal pressurization and precipitate formation are of the order of microsecond and millisecond, respectively. Small droplets (d 6 5 lm) tend to form thick shells and are less likely to undergo shell fracture compared to larger droplets. Ó 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Modeling of liquid ceramic precursor droplets in a high velocity oxy-fuel flame jet
Production of coatings by high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) flame jet processing of liquid precursor droplets can be an attractive alternative method to plasma processing. This article concerns modeling of the thermophysical processes in liquid ceramic precursor droplets injected into an HVOF flame jet. The model consists of several sub-models that include aerodynamic droplet break-up, heat and mas...
متن کاملModeling of axially and transversely injected precursor droplets into a plasma environment
Transport model of droplets injected axially or transversely into a plasma jet is presented. The droplets contain a ceramic precursor that precipitates in the vaporizing droplets. Droplet temperature and solute concentration distributions were predicted to estimate precipitation zones based on a homogeneous nucleation hypothesis. Effects of droplet size, injection velocity and injection angle w...

متن کاملStatistical Modeling for Oblique Collision of Nano and Micro Droplets in Plasma Spray Processes
Spreading and coating of nano and micro droplets on solid surfaces is important in a wide variety of applications including plasma spray coating, ink jet printing, DNA synthesis and etc. In spraying processes, most of droplets collide obliquely to the surface. The purpose of this article is to study the distribution of nano and micro droplets spreading when droplets impact at an oblique a...
متن کاملModeling of plasma assisted formation of precipitates in zirconium containing liquid precursor droplets
This paper focuses on the modeling of heat and mass transfer in precursor containing droplets injected into a plasma jet and the estimation of precipitate formation in these droplets from the solute. A hybrid model is employed where the plasma temperature and velocity fields are obtained from previous experimental results and the heat and mass transfer around droplets are modeled. The precipita...
