Laser in Conjunction with Endoscopic Forehead Surgery for Soft Tissue Masses
نویسنده
چکیده
Purpose: The use of the endoscopic techniques in plastic surgery has been a significant turn around of the traditional techniques. However, the combination of the laser with laser surgery has been very slow. Method: Between January 1996 and January2003, 42 patients have been treated for removal of benign tumor. 18 males and 24 females. Their age ranged from 5 to 64 years. The laser that we are using is Surgilase 150XJ CO2 laser system in connection with the flexible FIBERLASE (Sharplan, NJ, USA). Our endoscopy instrumentation is a 4 mm 30? angle endoscope (Snoden Pancer, USA). The dissection can be performed through a video dissection. The basic instrumentation consists of elevators, nerve hook, retractor and endoscopic scissors. Suction of the smoke cause by laser evaporization should also be prepared. Result: After laser in conjunction with endoscopic surgery for the patients in each group, the follow-up period ranged from 6 months to 2 years and 6months with average of one year and 7 months. In our retrospective review, the early complications of these 42 patients are scalp alopecia, scar alopecia, numbness, ecchyrnosis. There is no hematoma case happened in each group. In the evaluation of the final results, scar alopecia can be noted. Conclusion: Pulse CO2 laser in conjunction with endoscopic surgery enable plastic surgeon to work at a distance through small incisions without bleeding. Visible scares are reduced and recovery time is diminished. Key Word: endoscopy, laser, forehead, soft masses

Comparison of Soft Tissue Thermal Changes Induced by Three Types of Diode Lasers at 810, 940, and 980nm Wavelengths
Background and Aim: Diode laser is a great choice for soft tissue surgery. The diode laser is partially absorbed by hard dental tissues, making it safe for soft tissue surgery. This study aimed to compare the tissue thermal changes induced by three types of diode lasers at 810, 940, and 980nm wavelengths. Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro experimental study, using a diode laser device (c...

BACKGROUND Advancements in endoscopic surgery, due in part to patient demands and in part to provision of superior medical care by surgeons, have significantly contributed to improvements in patients' quality of life. An endoscopic operation is minimally invasive, associated with faster recovery, and produces less postoperative morbidity. It is a well-accepted procedure in the field of plastic ...
متن کاملPrimary One Stage Reconstruction in Complex Facial Avulsion Injury
Complex facial injuries with soft tissue degloving and bony avulsion are very devastating to the patient. Partial degloving injuries are described but hemifacial degloving with zygoma avulsion are rare. The author presents a case of post-traumatic degloving of the left upper lip, nose, part of forehead, upper and lower eyelids and cheek with avulsion of the left zygoma. The management include...

UNLABELLED Forehead lumps which are commonly excised for cosmetic reasons, are done through a traditional open excision technique. In the Asian population, open excision commonly results in a pigmented scar which tends not to fade with time and this can be a concern to some patients. The aims of this paper are to describe an endoscopically assisted technique of surgery, with emphasis on the sub...

Introduction: Meningioma is a benign and slowly-growing tumor that is responsible for 20% of brain neoplasms. It can be accompanied by some genetic disorders such as neurofibromatosis type 2 and is more common among women. As a space occupying lesion, it produces a wide range of signs and symptoms by compressing the adjacent and underlying tissues in the brain. Trauma and vi...
