چکیده

Real-data testing results of a real-time nonlinear freeway traffic state estimator are presented with a particular focus on its adaptive features. The pursued general approach to the real-time adaptive estimation of complete traffic state in freeway stretches or networks is based on stochastic nonlinear macroscopic traffic flow modeling and extended Kalman filtering. One major innovative aspect of the estimator is the real-time joint estimation of traffic flow variables (flows, mean speeds, and densities) and some important model parameters (free speed, critical density, and capacity), which leads to four significant features of the traffic state estimator: (i) avoidance of prior model calibration; (ii) automatic adaptation to changing external conditions (e.g. weather and lighting conditions, traffic composition, control measures); (iii) enabling of incident alarms; (iv) enabling of detector fault alarms. The purpose of the reported real-data testing is, first, to demonstrate feature (i) by investigating some basic properties of the estimator and, second, to explore some adaptive capabilities of the estimator that enable features (ii)–(iv). The achieved testing results are quite satisfactory and promising for further work and field

Traffic Condition Detection in Freeway by using Autocorrelation of Density and Flow

Traffic conditions vary over time, and therefore, traffic behavior should be modeled as a stochastic process. In this study, a probabilistic approach utilizing Autocorrelation is proposed to model the stochastic variation of traffic conditions, and subsequently, predict the traffic conditions. Using autocorrelation of the time series samples of density and flow which are collected from segments...

Analysis of an Adaptive Iterative Learning Algorithm for Freeway Ramp Flow Imputation

We present an adaptive iterative learning based flow imputation algorithm, to estimate missing flow profiles in on ramps and off ramps using a freeway traffic flow model. We use the LinkNode Cell transmission model to describe the traffic state evolution in freeways, with on ramp demand profiles and off ramp split ratios (which are derived from flows) as inputs. The model based imputation algor...

Design, Field Implementation and Evaluation of Adaptive Ramp Metering Algorithms: Final Report

Part I: Modeling, Estimation, and RampMetering Control of Freeway Traffic Themain objective of Part I is to develop improved algorithms for freeway on-ramp metering control. Toward this end, two macroscopic traffic models are first introduced and analyzed. The first is a modification of the cell transmission model (CTM) developed by Daganzo. This modified CTM uses cell vehicle densities as its ...

A Fuzzy-Neural Adaptive Iterative Learning Control for Freeway Traffic Flow Systems

In this paper, a fuzzy-neural adaptive iterative learning control (AILC) is proposed for traffic flow systems of a single lane freeway with random bounded off-ramp traffic volumes. It is assumed that the system dynamic functions and input gains are unknown for controller design. An adaptive fuzzy neural network (FNN) controller and an adaptive robust controller are applied to compensate for the...

Incorporating the information and uncertainties of loop-detector and floating car data in freeway traffic state estimation

Traffic management measures may be implemented to make use of the road traffic network as efficient as possible. Therefore, it is an important field of research for traffic researchers. Potential traffic management measures first have to be proven theoretically. However, before the decision is made to implement these measures in real-life, their effectiveness has to be tested. Road traffic invo...
