چکیده

The efficient use of water resources is a subject of major concern for water utilities and authorities. One of the main challenges in improving the efficiency of drinking water networks is to minimize water loss in pipes due to leakage. Water leaks in water distribution networks are unavoidable. They can cause significant economic losses in fluid transportation and an increase on reparation costs that finally generate an extra cost for the final consumer due to the waste of energy and chemicals in water treatment plants. Besides, leaks may also damage infrastructure and cause third party damage and health risks. The loss of about 15 % of treated water in developed countries and 35 % in developing countries is a rather critical issue in a world struggling to satisfy water demands of a growing population [2]. This chapter presents the state of the art of the leak management including the realtime monitoring that allows the leak detection and localization, techniques for repair and minimization based on the system control. Special attention will be given to model-based approaches. The deep description of a leak location method based on sensitivity matrix and the correlation analysis will be provided in this Chapter with the application to a real case study. Leak Detector Guidance for FreonTM Refrigerants

Refrigeration service personnel have used leak detection equipment for years when servicing refrigeration equipment. In the past, leak detection typically was only concerned with leak pinpointing, either with an ultrasonic device, soap bubbles, dyes, thermal conductivity, or other electronic devices. Today, refrigerant leak detectors exist not only for pinpointing leaks, but also for monitoring...

A Fundamental Approach to Oil and Gas Leaks Detection

Leak detection is a very important step in the production and maintenance of oil and gas pipelines. It is needed to check tightness specifications and to ensure other installation specifications are fulfilled. In this paper some pipeline leak detection methodologies are studied to come up with a design structure that could ease pipeline leak detection and monitoring via Google earth. A common d...

Hierarchical Leak Detection and Localization Method in Natural Gas Pipeline Monitoring Sensor Networks

In light of the problems of low recognition efficiency, high false rates and poor localization accuracy in traditional pipeline security detection technology, this paper proposes a type of hierarchical leak detection and localization method for use in natural gas pipeline monitoring sensor networks. In the signal preprocessing phase, original monitoring signals are dealt with by wavelet transfo...

Systemic capillary leak syndrome associated with compartment syndrome.

Systemic capillary leak syndrome is characterized by recurrent hypovolemic shock attributable to increased systemic capillary leakage. A 26-year-old woman was admitted because of recurrent episodes of hypovolemic shock. Hemoconcentration, hypoalbuminemia, and monoclonal gammopathy were observed. We diagnosed systemic capillary leak syndrome. Three years later, she again had an attack of systemi...

A Novel Feature Extraction Method for Monitoring (Vehicular) Fuel Storage System Leaks

System state determination with incomplete sensory information set proved to be a technically challenging problem. In this paper, authors tackle a problem of this type associated with vehicle fuel storage systems and proposed a novel feature extraction method. Federal and state regulations require fuel storage leak detection mechanism to be conducted periodically and regulate its execution rate...
