Climate Corrections to the Seasonal Wool Growth Rhythm of Sheep Grazing in a Southern Australian Environment
نویسنده
چکیده
Substantial rhythms in clean wool, wax and suint production have been observed for dry, spring-shorn Merino ewes maintained od a uniform plane of nutrition in exposed pens. Changes can be related directly to mean daily temperatures. Reversed rhythms were recorded for dry, spring-shorn, grazing sheep where both nutrition and climate were changing. Thus climate corrections would enhance the nutritional component of the latter. .

Determination of copper status of grazing sheep: seasonal influence
A study was conducted to determine the copper status of different classes of grazing sheep during twodifferent seasons on a farm located in southern Punjab, Pakistan. A complete free-choice supplement wasavailable to all animals throughout the year. Soil, forage and blood plasma from animals were taken eighttimes during the year (2005) (four times in both summer and winter seasons). Soil Cu2+ w...
متن کاملClimate change impacts on Australian Rangelands
The recent IPCC Fourth Assessment report concluded that Australia has significant vulnerability to the changes in temperature and rainfall projected under climate change (Hennessy et al. 2007). Agriculture and natural resources were two of the key sectors identified as likely to be affected strongly. Extensive grazing is by far the most widespread agricultural land use in Australia. Most of the...
متن کاملSeasonal Limitations to Nutrition of Sheep and Beef Cattle in High Rainfall Areas of South-eastern Australia
The cattle and sheep industries of Australia are almost entirely dependent on grazing animals. Weston and Hogan (1973) estimated that less than 5% of the feed consumed by domestic ruminants in this country is derived from sown grain crops, and only 5 or 6% from conserved forage. Consequently effective management and use of pastures are of prime importance for efficient animal production. Althou...
متن کاملA genome-wide scan to detect signatures of recent selection in Australian Merino sheep
Domestication and selection are processes that conserve the pattern of genetic diversities between and within populations. Identification of genomic regions that are targets of selection for phenotypic traits is one of the main aims of research in animal genetics. An approach for identifying divergently selected regions of the genome is to compare FST values among loci to estimate the genetic v...
متن کاملSeasonal Variation and Relationships Between Copper of Serum and Various Tissues in Copper Poisoned Sheep in Kerman Province, Iran
Background: Soil and plant contamination in copper exposure causes chronic copper poisoning (CCP) in animals following the consumption of plants in these soils. Objectives: The present study was carried out on 10 clinically affected copper poisoned cases (in each season) from autumn 2015 to the end of summer 2016, in four seasons in Kerman province to evaluate the seasonal effects of CCP in she...
