Virulence Factors in Enterococci

چکیده
Enterococcus species were considered as non-pathogenic bacteria until recognized as an important cause of bacterial endocarditis in 1899. During the past decade, there has been a worldwide increase in occurrence of enterococcal infections. Though more than 28 enteroccocal species described, Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium are isolated most frequently. This might be explained by the enhanced virulence of E. faecalis and E.faecium.

Multidrug Resistance and Virulence Factors of Enterococci Isolated from Milk and Some Dairy Desserts
Background: Enterococci spp. bacteria especially Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium have the ability to acquire antibiotic-resistance pattern and causing life-threatening hospital-acquired infections. So, the aim of this study was to count and isolate of E. faecalis and E. faecium from milk and dairy desserts consumed in Assiut city, Egypt. Methods: A total of 100 raw milk, ice cream, mehall...
متن کاملEvaluation of Virulence Factors and Plasmid-Related Transmissibility among Different Isolates of Enterococci
The incidence of virulence factors among 114 Enterococcus faecalis and 35 Enterococcus faecium strains from different clinical specimens were compared with those isolated from control groups. A few of the isolates expressed two or more of the following traits simultaneously: hemolysin, aggregation substance, gelatinase, DNase, hemagglutinin and antibiotic resistance. The frequencies of hemolysi...

Background & Aim: Enterococci comprise an important and diverse group of bacteria that cause disease in human and animals. They reside in the gastrointestinal tract of human and animal, soil, water, foods, and can persist in elevated salt contents and various pH values. They can readily acquire antibiotic resistance and various other virulence factors. In this study, the prevalence of vario...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance and virulence factors among Enterococci isolated from chouriço, a traditional Portuguese dry fermented sausage.
Enterococci are ubiquitous microorganisms, found as part of the normal intestinal microbiota of many animals. They can be present in food products, for example, the Portuguese dry fermented sausage chouriço. Twenty enterococci were isolated from chouriço in two processing units; after identification and typification by conventional-molecular methods, the isolates were screened for virulence fac...
متن کاملPrevalence of Virulence Factors and Drug Resistance in Clinical Isolates of Enterococci: A Study from North India
Along with emergence of multidrug resistance, presence of several virulence factors in enterococci is an emerging concept. This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of various virulence factors phenotypically and genotypically in enterococci and study their association with multidrug resistance. A total of 310 enterococcal isolates were studied, comprising 155 E. faecium and 155 E. ...
متن کاملEnterococci: yin - yang microbes
This review deals with the duality of enterococci, which can be illustrated by their yin yang behaviour. The rough nature of this specific group of lactic acid bacteria promotes their dissemination in various environments where they significantly influence the outcome of a certain process. In the technological meaning, enterococci are leading microbes in fermentation processes of traditional fo...
