چکیده

One of the most prominent properties of young stars is strong and variable X-ray emission. The All-Sky Survey performed by ROSAT and the new high sensitivity and high spectral resolution X-ray mission XMM provide complementary information about stellar X-ray sources. While the spatial completeness of the survey is indispensable for the identification of related groups of stars, detailed variability studies and spectroscopic analysis for individual objects are possible with the improved effective area, gratings and CCD chips onboard XMM.

Structure and Evolution of Pre-Main Sequence Stars Citation

Low-mass pre-main sequence (PMS) stars are strong and variable X-ray emitters, as has been well established by EINSTEIN and ROSAT observatories. It was originally believed that this emission was of thermal nature and primarily originated from coronal activity (magnetically confined loops, in analogy with Solar activity) on contracting young stars. Broadband spectral analysis showed that the emi...

ROSAT X-ray Spectral Properties of Nearby Young Associations: TW Hydrae, Tucana-Horologium, and the β Pic Moving Group

We present archival ROSAT data for three recently identified, nearby (D < 70 pc), young (∼ 10−40 Myr) stellar associations: the TW Hydrae Association, the Tucana-Horologium Association, and the β Pic Moving Group. The distributions of ROSAT X-ray hardness ratios (HR1, HR2) for these three groups, whose membership is dominated by low-mass, weak-lined T Tauri stars, are tightly clustered and very...

X - ray observations of the young open cluster Blanco 1

We present results from two deep ROSAT HRI exposures on the Blanco 1 open cluster. Blanco 1 is one of the few open clusters at large distance from the Galactic Plane. This circumstance has suggested that it may have formed through a mechanism different from that responsible for the other nearby clusters. The age of Blanco 1 is rather uncertain since, depending on the adopted age indicator, it r...

The Herbig Ae Star Hd 163296 in X-rays

Chandra X-ray imaging spectroscopy of the nearby Herbig Ae star HD 163296 at 100 AU angular resolution is reported. A point-like, soft (kT∼0.5 keV), emission-line source is detected at the location of the star with an X-ray luminosity of 4 × 10 ergs s (logLX/Lbol = −5.48). In addition, faint emission along the direction of a previously-detected Lyα-emitting jet and Herbig-Haro outflow may be pr...

Simultaneous X-ray and Radio Monitoring of the Unusual Binary Ls I ]61¡303 : Measurements of the Light Curve and High-energy Spectrum

The binary system, LS I ]61¡303, is unusual both because of the dramatic, periodic, radio outbursts, and because of its possible association with the 100 MeV gamma-ray source, 2CG 135]01. We have performed simultaneous radio and Rossi X-Ray T iming Explorer X-ray observations at 11 intervals over the 26.5 day orbit, and in addition searched for variability on timescales ranging from millisecond...
