Progress Towards a New Test Method Based on CIELAB Colorimetry for Evaluating the Image Stability of Photographs

چکیده
Traditional methods of image permanence testing have tracked changes in image appearance (changes in density, color balance, and/or Dmin stain) with densitometric endpoint criteria. Densitometric filter sets were optimized for specific colorant systems, for example, the Status A filter set to measure chromogenic photographic materials like those processed in RA-4 chemistry. Modern digital printing systems employ a wide variety of pigment or dyebased colorants with markedly different spectral properties, and some use more than cyan, magenta, yellow, and black colorants to achieve enhanced color gamut and improved continuous tone properties. Densitometry is no longer wholly appropriate because equivalent neutral densities expressed in R, G, and B density units can lead to significant deviations from visually perceptible neutral gray tones in modern imaging systems. CIELAB colorimetry eliminates this technical problem, but designing a colorimetric method and an endpoint criteria set that correlates well with visually perceived changes in pictorial image quality is not trivial. This paper discusses psychophysical testing issues related to the development of a new test method based on CIELAB colorimetry for evaluating the image stability of photographs.

A New Method for Color Gamut Mapping by Genetic Algorithm
To reproduce an image, it is necessary to map out of gamut colors of the image to destination gamut. It is clear that the best color gamut mapping introduces the perceptually closest image to the original one. In this study, a new color gamut mapping is purposed by the aid of Genetic Algorithm (GA). The color difference between the original and mapped images based on S-LAB formula was chosen as...
متن کاملA “Retained Image Appearance” Metric For Full Tonal Scale, Colorimetric Evaluation Of Photographic Image Stability
This paper describes a computational model based on CIELAB colorimetry and full tonal scale evaluation to define objective boundary conditions for “Retained Image Appearance” in a photograph where 100% retention equates to no visual change and 0% retention means total functional loss of image information content. The “Retained Image Appearance” model, I*, examines the color information (hue and...

This study is aimed at evaluating the performance of tetrakismethylene-3-3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl propionate methane S1010, tris2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl phosphite S1680 and ascorbic acid AA antioxidants in stabilization of hydroxypropyl cellulose HPC. For this purpose, a number of films with weight percent ratios of 0.4 w/w were prepared in a 1 isopropanol solution w/v. Then, the films ...
متن کاملNew Method for Analysis of image sensor to produce and evaluate the image
In this paper, a new method for evaluating CMOS image sensors based on computer modeling and analysis is introduced. Image sensors are composed of different parts, each of which has a specific effect on image quality. Circuits of image sensors can be evaluated and analyzed using circuit simulators or theoretically, but these methods cannot help to produce the final image. In order to produce th...
