Visual Inspection Application in Industry by Integrated Computing System

Visual inspection by integrated computing system can perform 100% inspection on products as they are being manufactured. The measurement, alignment or verification results can be fed directly to the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) for immediate action. Once this information is presented, the PLC must track each piece and accept or reject that piece at some later time, possibly after several additional pieces have been inspected. This real time process control reduces rework and scrap. It also detects problems before further manufacturing costs are incurred. Data generated by the visual inspection can be used to detect trends and document product quality. The objectives of this research are the application of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and the application of visual inspection on Modular Automation Production System-4 (MAPS-4) as the bottling process miniature. System examination and implementation done by identifying some product labels, each label consists of two or three information lines. The result shows that average precision of system identification is 96.82% and the average identifying duration for each information line is 6.09 second.
