We propose first measurements of the spindependent asymmetries from elastic Compton scattering of circularly polarized photons on a highpressure polarized 3He gas target. The proposed experiment will be carried out at a photon energy of 120 MeV. The Compton scattered photons will be detected by HIγS NaI Detector Array (HINDA) system. In combination with the forward and backward polarizabilities extracted from existing experiments, the proposed experiment will allow for the first time the extraction of all four neutron spin polarizabilities, and provide crucial tests of predictions based on effective field theories, dispersion theories, and lattice QCD calculations. We request a total beam time of 1260 hours with 100 % efficiency photon beam at a minimum photon flux of 5 × 10 7/sec for a photon energy spread of 3.0%.

Study of the Compton scattering effect of soft tissue in PET imaging by Monte Carlo method

Introduction:In PET imaging, one or both of two annihilation photons may change the direction before reaching the detector due to Compton scattering interaction in body. .Methods:This article, a Monte Carlo simulation study, examined the effect of soft tissue on this error. In this work, the PET BiographTM 6 scanner, a simple geometry of soft tissue -including a sphere of soft tissue in center ...

Parity Violation in − → γ p Compton Scattering

Polarized beam −→γ p Compton scattering provides a theoretically clean way to extract the isovector parity violating pion-nucleon coupling constant h (1) πNN . This channel is more tractable experimentally than the recently proposed extraction of h (1) πNN from the Bedaque-Savage process — polarized target γ −→p compton scattering. The leading parity violating effect is calculated using Heavy B...

We propose a measurement of the neutron electric form factor GEn at high four– momentum transfer values of Q = 1.3, 2.4, and 3.4 (GeV/c) in double polarized semi-exclusive 3 He( e, e′n) scattering in quasi–elastic kinematics by measuring the asymmetry AT of the cross section. Results from the recent JLab experiment E93-027 for elastic electron-proton scattering, using a recoil polarization tech...

Measurement of the transverse target-spin asymmetry associated with deeply virtual Compton scattering on the proton

Measurements of deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) made at HERMES using 27.6 GeV e± beams and various internal polarized or unpolarized gaseous targets are discussed. Results are reported on the transverse target-spin asymmetry (TTSA) associated with DVCS, extracted from data accumulated in 2002-2004 with the e beam on a transversely polarized hydrogen target. TTSA amplitudes leading in t...

Measurement of azimuthal asymmetries associated with deeply virtual Compton scattering on a longitudinally polarized deuterium target

Azimuthal asymmetries in exclusive electroproduction of a real photon from a longitudinally polarized deuterium target are measured with respect to target polarization alone and with respect to target polarization combined with beam helicity and/or beam charge. The asymmetries appear in the distribution of the real photons in the azimuthal angle φ around the virtual photon direction, relative t...
