چکیده

Hagström-Toft, Eva, Staffan Enoksson, Erik Moberg, Jan Bolinder, and Peter Arner. b-Adrenergic regulation of lipolysis and blood flow in human skeletal muscle in vivo. Am. J. Physiol. 275 (Endocrinol. Metab. 38): E909–E916, 1998.— Little is known about the regulation of catecholaminestimulated lipolysis in human skeletal muscle. Therefore, b-adrenergic regulation of lipolysis and blood flow was investigated in healthy subjects in vivo by use of microdialysis of the gastrocnemius muscle. First, during a hypoglycemic, hyperinsulinemic clamp, which induces a lipolytic response in skeletal muscle tissue, the muscle was locally perfused with b-adrenoceptor blocking agents. Perfusion with nonselective (propranolol) and b2-selective (ICI-118551) blocking agents counteracted the hypoglycemia-induced lipolysis (P , 0.01), but perfusion with metoprolol (b1-blocker) did not affect the glycerol response. Second, selective b-adrenoceptor agonists were perfused in situ into skeletal muscle during resting conditions. b2-Adrenoceptor stimulation with terbutaline induced a concentration-dependent increase in skeletal muscle glycerol levels and in tissue blood flow, whereas perfusion with b1or b3-adrenoceptor agonists (dobutamine or CGP12177) did not influence the glycerol concentration or blood flow. In conclusion, in skeletal muscle tissue, only the b2subtype is of importance among b-adrenoceptors for regulation of lipolysis and blood flow. This is in contrast to adipose tissue, where b1and b3-adrenoceptors are also involved.

HSL serine phosphorylation and glycerol exchange across skeletal muscle in lean and obese subjects: effect of beta-adrenergic stimulation

Objective: Increased intramuscular triacylglycerol (IMTG) storage is a characteristic of the obese insulin resistant state. We aimed to investigate whether a blunted fasting or beta-adrenergically mediated lipolysis contributes to this increased IMTG storage in obesity. Research design and Methods: Forearm skeletal muscle (SM) lipolysis was investigated in thirteen lean and ten obese men using ...

Evidence for a major role of skeletal muscle lipolysis in the regulation of lipid oxidation during caloric restriction in vivo.

A lipolytic process in skeletal muscle has recently been demonstrated. However, the physiological importance of this process is unknown. We investigated the role of skeletal muscle lipolysis for lipid utilization during caloric restriction in eight obese women before and after 11 days of very low-calorie diet (VLCD) (2.2 MJ per day). Subjects were studied with indirect calorimetry and microdial...

Effect of Aerobic Exercise with Blood Flow Restriction on Mitochondrial Dynamics Proteins of Human Skeletal Muscles

Background: Aerobic exercise with Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) plays an important role in skeletal muscle adaptation; however, the effects of this type of exercise on mitochondrial dynamics proteins are unclear. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aerobic exercise with and without BFR on mitochondrial dynamics proteins of human skeletal muscles.  Methods: Pa...

The Effect of Β1- and Β2-adrenergic Stimulation on Energy Expenditure, Substrate Oxidation and Ucp3 Expression in Human Skeletal Muscle

In humans, β-adrenergic stimulation increases energy and fat metabolism. In case of β1stimulation, this is fuelled by an increased lipolysis. We examined the effect of β2-adrenergic stimulation, with and without a blocker of lipolysis, on thermogenesis and substrate oxidation. Furthermore, the effect of β1and β2-adrenergic stimulation on UCP3 mRNA expression was studied. Nine lean males receive...
