Visibility with Multiple Reflections

چکیده
We show that the region lit by a point light source inside a simple n-gon after at most k reeections oo the boundary has combinatorial complexity O(n 2k), for any k 1. A lower bound of ((n=k ? (1)) 2k) is also established which matches the upper bound for any xed k. A simple near-optimal algorithm for computing the illuminated region is presented, which runs in O(n 2k log n) time and O(n 2k) space for k > 1, and in O(n 2 log 2 n) time and O(n 2) space for k = 1.

Directly Visible Pairs and Illumination by Reflections in Orthogonal Polygons
We consider direct visibility in simple orthogonal polygons and derive tight lower and upper bounds on the number of strictly internal and external visibility edges. We also show a lower bound of ⌈n2 ⌉ − 1 on the number of diffuse reflections required for completely illuminating an orthogonal polygon from an arbitrary point inside it. Further, we derive lower bounds on the combinatorial complex...
متن کاملDiplomarbeit Approximative Real-time Soft Shadows and Diffuse Reflections in Dynamic Scenes
Unterschrift Datum This thesis describes a method for approximative soft shadows and diffuse reflections in dynamic scenes, based on a method by Ren et al. [32]. An overview of precomputed radiance transfer and spherical harmonics is also presented, as well as a short introduction to global illumination. The proposed method uses a low-order spherical harmonics basis to represent incident radian...
متن کاملFast and Accurate Geometric Sound Propagation using Visibility Computations
Geometric Acoustics (GA) techniques based on the image-source method, ray tracing, beam tracing, and ray-frustum tracing, are widely used to compute sound propagation paths. In this paper, we highlight the connection between these propagation techniques with the research on visibility computation in computer graphics and computational geometry. We give a brief overview of visibility algorithms ...
متن کاملParallel and adaptive visibility sampling for rendering dynamic scenes with spatially varying reflectance
Fast rendering of dynamic scenes with natural illumination, all-frequency shadows and spatially-varying reflections is important but challenging. One main difficulty brought by moving objects is that the runtime visibility update of dynamic occlusion is usually time-consuming and slow. In this paper, we present a new visibility sampling technique and show that efficient all-frequency rendering ...
متن کاملExpanding Visibility Polygons by Mirrors upto at least K units
We consider extending visibility polygon (V P ) of a given point q (V P (q)), inside a simple polygon P by converting some edges of P to mirrors. We will show that several variations of the problem of finding mirror-edges to add at least k units of area to V P (q) are NP-complete, or NP-hard. Which k is a given value. We deal with both single and multiple reflecting mirrors, and also specular o...
متن کاملDynamic Depth Recovery from Multiple Synchronized Video Streams
This paper addresses the problem of extracting depth information of non-rigid dynamic 3D scenes from multiple synchronized video streams. Three main issues are discussed in this context: (i) temporally consistent depth estimation, (ii) sharp depth discontinuity estimation around object boundaries, and (iii) enforcement of the global visibility constraint. We present a framework in which the sce...
