چکیده

Nonmonotonic dose dependence of optically stimulated luminescence OSL has been reported in a number of materials including Al2O3:C which is one of the main dosimetric materials. In a recent work, the nonmonotonic effect has been shown to result, under certain circumstances, from the competition either during excitation or during readout between trapping states or recombination centers. In the present work, we report on a study of the effect in a more concrete framework of two trapping states and two kinds of recombination centers involved in the luminescence processes in Al2O3:C. Using sets of trapping parameters, based on available experimental data, previously utilized to explain the nonmonotonic dose dependence of thermoluminescence including nonzero initial occupancies of recombination centers F+ centers , the OSL along with the occupancies of the relevant traps and centers are simulated numerically. The connection between these different resulting quantities is discussed, giving a better insight as to the ranges of the increase and decrease of the integral OSL as a function of dose, as well as the constant equilibrium value occurring at high doses. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. Intrinsic superlinear dose dependence of thermoluminescence and optically stimulated luminescence at high excitation dose rates

Superlinear dose dependence of thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) has been reported for many materials. The theoretical explanation has been ascribed to competition of either traps or recombination centers, during the excitation stage or during the read-out phase. There has been an account in the literature on superlinearity of OSL associated with merely one tra...

PTOSL response of commercial Al2O3:C detectors to ultraviolet radiation.

The photo-transferred optically stimulated luminescence (PTOSL) technique using Al2O3:C detectors has been suggested as a good option for ultraviolet (UV) radiation dosimetry. The objective of this work was to study the PTOSL response of Al2O3:C InLight detectors and the OSL microStar reader of Landauer. The parameters such as radiation pre-dose, optical treatment time and UV illumination time ...

Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) of carbon-doped aluminum oxide (Al2O3:C) for film dosimetry in radiotherapy.

INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE Conventional x-ray films and radiochromic films have inherent challenges for high precision radiotherapy dosimetry. Here we have investigated basic characteristics of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) of irradiated films containing carbon-doped aluminum oxide (Al2O3:C) for dosimetry in therapeutic photon and electron beams. MATERIALS AND METHODS The OSL films co...

Characterization of optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters, OSLDs, for clinical dosimetric measurements.

Optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters, OSLDs, are plastic disks infused with aluminum oxide doped with carbon (Al2O3 : C). These disks are encased in a light-tight plastic holder. Crystals of Al2O3 : C when exposed to ionizing radiation store energy that is released as luminescence (420 nm) when the OSLD is illuminated with stimulation light (540 nm). The intensity of the luminescence dep...

Radiotherapy dosimetry using a commercial OSL system.

A commercial optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) system developed for radiation protection dosimetry by Landauer, Inc., the InLight microStar reader, was tested for dosimetry procedures in radiotherapy. The system uses carbon-doped aluminum oxide, Al2O3:C, as a radiation detector material. Using this OSL system, a percent depth dose curve for 60Co gamma radiation was measured in solid water...
