Invention and Rebellion: Why do Innovations Occur at all? An evolutionary approach

چکیده
Introduction How are we to think of the fundamental causes of technological change? I should like to argue here-but not demonstrate-that standard neoclassical economic models perform poorly in explaining technological progress. In a recent paper, Edward Prescott (1997) has noted the failures of standard theory to explain the huge differences in incomes and productivity. Instead of criticizing standard analysis again, I propose to experiment with an alternative. In the paper below, I propose to sketch out the rough outlines of a model based not on standard neoclassical analysis but on evolutionary dynamics. The idea that knowledge can be analyzed using an evolutionary epistemology based on blind variation and selective retention was proposed first by

Toward Evolutionary Innovation Theory
Abstract: Innovations, commercialized by new or old established firms, located at the core of industrial renewal process. The innovation concept has suffered transformations, along with the evolution of the models that try to explain and understand the innovation process. The innovative process corresponds to all activities that generate technological changes and the dynamic interaction between...

One of the basic matters in discussing the experimental use as an exception to patent rights is defining the subject of it. A criterion used in this regard is making a distinction between experiments done with a commercial purpose and the ones done with a non-commercial one. This approach has already been discussed in Iranian legal literature. Another approach, however, is differentiating betwe...
متن کاملHow Do Product Users Influence Corporate Invention?
The extensive academic literature on innovation has long recognized product users as a potentially important source of ideas. While prior work has primarily focused on understanding the unique motivations and knowledge that allow users to generate their own innovations, we extend existing theory to investigate the contribution of users to corporate invention. We draw on the knowledge-based view...
متن کاملPuzzles in modern biology. II. Language, cancer and the recursive processes of evolutionary innovation
Human language emerged abruptly. Diverse body forms evolved suddenly. Seed-bearing plants spread rapidly. How do complex evolutionary innovations arise so quickly? Resolving alternative claims remains difficult. The great events of the past happened a long time ago. Cancer provides a model to study evolutionary innovation. A tumor must evolve many novel traits to become an aggressive cancer. I ...
