The Creator

An interactive performance work. " Once the instrument is created, its operational requirements shape the form of its members " Project Description This art project is a continuation of my work from last semester. I am currently working on the non-trivial problem of large scale robotic control of a marionette-type puppet. I am focusing as well on the control environment or the 'world' of the Creator, which constitutes a dualistic system where the organic and the mechanical coexist as a presage to the post-modern bionic being. Most of my work at this point consists in the research results and the tests conducted based on the research and pure experimentation. This include material, technical as well as theoretical basis for the creation of the environment and the characters as well as the artistic and technical lineage that influences this endeavor. The most important aspect of my work as an artist is the process of discovery and re-invention. Even though a final product is usually expected, it is the trail, better know as the experience of success and failures that for me represents the 'work of art'. As we inherit traits as well as knowledge from our predecessors, we can assume that our work is hardly original. Everywhere I look, back as far I can find documentation, I find that human curiosity has investigated this fascinating environment we call our world in depth. What has changed through time, of course, is the point of view in our space-time continuum. Therefore how we perceive something gives us the illusion that it is indeed new, but on closer examination we discover that it is just another part of the thread that constitutes the complex fabric of life. So perhaps, what we call art is simply this point of view, and how well it resonates with the grander structure is a measure of its quality and " profundity of vision ". 3 From the The Apocalypse Tapestry 1 to Jacquard's loom and the modern computer the thread belongs to the same weaver and our history is our quest to find it. As we do so, our vision is modified by the mediums and tools that we use, which are in fact, just extensions of our self. Art is for me, the organization of these fragments of the thread in a way that most closely resembles my vision, my place in the tapestry so to speak. …
