چکیده

We calculate exactly the functional determinant for fermions in fundamental representation of SU(2) in the background of periodic instanton with non-trivial value of the Polyakov line at spatial infinity. The determinant depends on the value of the holonomy v, the temperature, and the parameter r12, which at large values can be treated as separation between the Bogomolny–Prasad– Sommerfeld monopoles (or dyons) which constitute the periodic instanton. We find a compact expression for small and large r12 and compute the determinant numerically for arbitrary r12 and v.

Fermionic determinant for the SU(N) caloron with nontrivial holonomy

In the finite-temperature Yang-Mills theory we calculate the functional determinant for fermions in the fundamental representation of SU(N) gauge group in the background of an instanton with non-trivial holonomy at spatial infinity. This object, called the Kraan–van Baal – Lee–Lu caloron, can be viewed as composed of N Bogomolny–Prasad–Sommerfeld monopoles (or dyons). We compute analytically tw...

We report the observation of calorons with nontrivial holonomy and fractional topological charge objects in cooled lattice samples derived from SU(2) equilibrium ensembles at T < Tc. Characteristic features of QCD are related to the existence of lumps of topological charge in the vacuum. Usually, they are described as instantons or, at T 6= 0, calorons [1] and considered to be the agents of chi...

Finite temperature Euclidean SU(2) lattice gauge fields generated in the confinement phase close to the deconfinement phase transition are subjected to cooling. The aim is to identify long-living, almost-classical local excitations which carry (generically non-integer) topological charge. Two kinds of spatial boundary conditions (fixed holonomy and standard periodic boundary conditions) are app...

How instantons could survive the phase transition

Instantons at finite temperature consist of dyons, with their masses depending on the asymptotic Polyakov loop. It is shown that the suppression of heavy dyons can explain qualitatively the behavior of the periodic and antiperiodic chiral condensate and the topological susceptibility above the phase transition. c Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attributi...
