Random mixtures with orientational order, and the anisotropic resistivity tensor of high-Tc superconductors

چکیده
By generalizing effective-medium theory to the case of orientationally ordered but positionally disordered two-component mixtures, it is shown that the anisotropic dielectric tensor of oxide superconductors can be extracted from microwave measurements on oriented crystallites of YBa, Cu, 0, _ x embedded in epoxy. Surprisingly, this technique appears to be the only one which can access the resistivity perpendicular to the copper-oxide planes in crystallites that are too small for depositing electrodes. This possibility arises in part because the real part of the dielectric constant of oxide superconductors has a large magnitude. The validity of the effective-medium approach for orientationally ordered mixtures is corroborated by simulations on two-dimensional anisotropic random resistor networks. Analysis of the experimental data suggests that the zero-temperature limit of the finite-frequency resistivity does not vanish along the c axis, a result which would imply the existence of states at the Fermi surface, even in the superconducting state.

Normal-state C-axis Resistivity of the High-tc Cuprate Superconductors
It is shown that a strong intraplanar incoherent scattering can effectively block the interplanar coherent tunneling between the weakly coupled planes of the highly anisotropic but clean (intrinsic) materials such as the optimally doped high-Tc layered cuprate superconductors. The calculated normal-state C-axis resistivity ρc(T ) then follows the metal-like temperature dependence of the ab-plan...

We address the question of whether an anisotropic gap of dx2−y2 symmetry is compatible with localized states in the normal phase. The issue is important for high-Tc superconductors for which a superconductor-to-insulator transition is observed, together with a number of experiments that support d-wave pairing. We prove that d-wave superconductivity is compatible with a localized normal state. W...

We address the question of whether anisotropic superconductivity is compatible with the evidently weak sensitivity of the critical temperature Tc to sample quality in the high-Tc copper oxides. We examine this issue quantitatively by solving the strongcoupling Eliashberg equations numerically as well as analytically for s-wave impurity scattering within the second Born approximation. For pairin...

In this paper, a dc Josephson junction between two singlet superconductors (d-wave and s-wave) with arbitrary reflection coefficient has been investigated theoretically. For the case of high Tc superconductors, the c-axes are parallel to an interface with finite transparency and their ab-planes have a mis-orientation. The physics of potential barrier will be demonstrated by a transparency coeff...

Flux motion in anisotropic type-II superconductors is studied in the framework of the timedependent Ginzburg-Landau theory. Expressions for the Hux-6ow resistivity tensor (including all the longitudinal and Hall elements) are obtained for the case that the applied magnetic field H is parallel to one of the principal axes of the sample and H is near the upper critical Beld H 2. A simple method i...
