چکیده

In this lab, we investigated the responsivity, time response, and noise performance of various photodetectors, including thermal detectors, silicon photodiodes, and photomultiplier tubes (PMT). A standard helium-neon gas laser (HeNe), operated in the red (632.8 nm), was used as the light source for the measurements of the silicon photodiodes. A flashlight served as a radiation source to measure the time response of the thermal detector. The measurements clearly showed the different advantages of the various detectors and their limits of operation. ∗Author of this lab report 1. Thermal Detectors AP304 Laser Laboratory Course, Lab 1

Performance Evaluation of Local Detectors in the Presence of Noise for Multi-Sensor Remote Sensing Image Matching

Automatic, efficient, accurate, and stable image matching is one of the most critical issues in remote sensing, photogrammetry, and machine vision. In recent decades, various algorithms have been proposed based on the feature-based framework, which concentrates on detecting and describing local features. Understanding the characteristics of different matching algorithms in various applications ...

Thermal noise and correlations in photon detection.

The standard expressions for the noise that is due to photon fluctuations in thermal background radiation typically apply only for a single detector and are often strictly valid only for single-mode illumination. I describe a technique for rigorously calculating thermal photon noise, which allows for arbitrary numbers of optical inputs and detectors, multiple-mode illumination, and both interna...

Towards thermal noise free optomechanics

Thermal noise generally greatly exceeds quantum noise in optomechanical devices unless the mechanical frequency is very high or the thermodynamic temperature is very low. This paper addresses the design concept for a novel optomechanical device capable of ultrahigh quality factors in the audio frequency band with negligible thermal noise. The proposed system consists of a minimally supported mi...

Wake-field in an array of metallic posts: Possible application for beam position monitoring

It is proposed to use an array of metallic posts as a beam position monitor (BPM). The structure consists of a set of N N metallic vertical posts bounded from above and below by two horizontal metallic plates. The beam position offset from the symmetry axis is determined by measuring the backward radiation emitted by the beam as it traverses the array. The suggested BPM’s position resolution is...

Spectral Response of Metallic Optical Antennas Driven by Temperature

When optical antennas are used as light detectors, temperature changes their spectral response. Using this relation, we determine the spectrum of a light beam from an optical antenna's signal. A numerical evaluation of the temperature-spectral response has been completed with a model for the noise of the device. Using both the response and the noise model, we have established the capabilities o...
