چکیده

A proper test of Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) in systems of non-trivial geometries depends on modelling subtle differences in several versions of its postulated theories. This is especially important for lensing and dynamics of barely virialised galaxy clusters with typical gravity of scale ∼ a0 ∼ 1Ås . The original MOND formula, the classical single field modification of the Poisson equation, and the multi-field general relativistic theory of Bekenstein (TeVeS) all lead to different predictions as we stray from spherical symmetry. In this paper, we study a class of analytical MONDian models for a system with a semi-Hernquist baryonic profile. After presenting the analytical distribution function of the baryons in spherical limits, we develop orbits and gravitational lensing of the models in non-spherical geometries. In particular, we can generate a multi-centred baryonic system with a weak lensing signal resembling that of the merging galaxy cluster 1E 0657-56 with a bullet-like light distribution. We finally present analytical scale-free highly non-spherical models to show the subtle differences between the single field classical MOND theory and the multi-field TeVeS theory.

An analytic model for non-spherical lenses in covariant MOND

Strong gravitational lensing by galaxies in modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) has until now been restricted to spherically symmetric models. These models were able to account for the size of the Einstein ring of observed lenses, but were unable to account for doubleimaged systems with collinear images, as well as four-image lenses. Non-spherical models are generally cumbersome to compute numer...

The collision velocity of the bullet cluster in conventional and modified dynamics

We consider the orbit of the bullet cluster 1E 0657-56 in both CDM and MOND using accurate mass models appropriate to each case in order to ascertain the maximum plausible collision velocity. Impact velocities consistent with the shock velocity (∼ 4700 km s) occur naturally in MOND. CDM can generate collision velocities of at most ∼ 3800 km s, and is only consistent with the data provided that ...

M ar 2 00 8 Rings and shells of “ dark matter ” as MOND artifacts

MOND predicts that a mass, M , contained within its transition radius rt ≡ (MG/a0) , may exhibit a feature at about that radius in the form of a shell, or projected ring, in the deduced distribution of its phantom dark matter. This occurs despite the absence of any underlying feature in the true (“baryon”) source distribution itself. The phenomenon is similar to the appearance of an event horiz...

MOND mass-to-light ratio for the COMA cluster

Large values for the mass-to-light ratio (Υ) in self-gravitating systems is one of the most important evidences of dark matter. We propose a expression for the mass-to-light ratio in spherical systems using MOND. Results for the COMA cluster reveal that a modification of the gravity, as proposed by MOND, can reduce significantly this value.
