Fluid and Diffusion Limits for Bike Sharing Systems

چکیده
Bike sharing systems have rapidly developed around the world, and they are served as a promising strategy to improve urban traffic congestion and to decrease polluting gas emissions. So far performance analysis of bike sharing systems always exists many difficulties and challenges under some more general factors. In this paper, a more general large-scale bike sharing system is discussed by means of heavy traffic approximation of multiclass closed queueing networks with non-exponential factors. Based on this, the fluid scaled equations and the diffusion scaled equations are established by means of the numbers of bikes both at the stations and on the roads, respectively. Furthermore, the scaling processes for the numbers of bikes both at the stations and on the roads are proved to converge in distribution to a semimartingale reflecting Brownian motion (SRBM) in a N-dimensional box, and also the fluid and diffusion limit theorems are obtained. Furthermore, performance analysis of the bike sharing system is provided. Thus the results and methodology of this paper provide new highlight in the study of more general large-scale bike sharing systems.

A Multi-commodity Pickup and Delivery Open-tour m-TSP Formulation for Bike Sharing Rebalancing Problem
Bike sharing systems (BSSs) offer a mobility service whereby public bikes, located at different stations across an urban area, are available for shared use. An important point is that the distribution of rides between stations is not uniformly distributed and certain stations fill up or empty over time. These empty and full stations lead to demand for bikes and return boxes that cannot be fulfi...

During the last decade bike sharing systems have emerged as a public transport mode in urban short trips in more than 500 major cities around the world. For the mobility service mode, many challenges from its operations are not well addressed yet, for example, how to develop the bike sharing systems to be able to effectively satisfy the fluctuating demands both for bikes and for vacant lockers....

Under fairly general assumptions on the arrival and service time processes, we prove fluid and heavy traffic limit theorems for the unfinished work, queue length, sojourn time and waiting time processes associated with a single station multiclass generalized processor sharing model. The fluid limit of the unfinished work process is characterized by the Skorokhod map associated with a Skorokhod ...

متن کاملA Stochastic Analysis of Bike Sharing Systems
As more people move back into densely populated cities, bike sharing is emerging as an important mode of urban mobility. In a typical bike sharing system, riders arrive at a station and take a bike if it is available. After retrieving a bike, they ride it for a while, then return it to a station near their final destinations. Since space is limited in cities, each station has a finite capacity ...
