چکیده
Severe hyperbilirubinemia in a pregnant mother suffering from Crigler-Najjar syndrome type II is a threat to the unborn child and may result in brain injury. We report the case of a Gly71-->Arg/Tyr486-->Asp homozygous mother of East Asian descent, who was treated with phototherapy during embryogenesis and with phenobarbital during the rest of the pregnancy. This resulted in significantly reduced bilirubin levels in the mother, who gave birth to a healthy boy. A neonatal hyperbilirubinemia resolved spontaneously.

Oral calcium phosphate: a new therapy for Crigler-Najjar disease?
BACKGROUND & AIMS Calcium phosphate binds unconjugated bilirubin in vitro, and dietary calcium phosphate supplementation reduces the serum bilirubin level in rats with hereditary unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia (Gunn rats). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of oral calcium phosphate supplementation on plasma bilirubin levels in patients with Crigler-Najjar disease. METHODS A pl...

OBJECTIVE To report a case of maternal Crigler-Najjar syndrome (CNS) type II in pregnancy, systematically review the literature for similar case reports, and to evaluate whether pregnancy is safe in patients with the disease. Data sources included the PubMed and up to date databases. RESULTS A 37-year-old mother with CNS type II was treated with phenobarbital during her pregnancy and her bili...
متن کاملUGT1a1 Gene Mutations in a Tibetan Patient with Crigler-Najjar Syndrome
Crigler-Najjar Syndrome (CNS) is un conjugated hyperbilirubinemia caused by mutations in bilirubin UDP-glucuronosyl transferase (UGT1A1) gene which can transform the un conjugated bilirubin by conjugating it with glucuronic acid. There are two types of CNS.CNS-I is fatal because of the bilirubin encephalopathy combined with severe un conjugated hyperbilirubinaemia, while CNS-II is a moderate fo...
متن کاملInheritance of type 2 Crigler-Najjar hyperbilirubinaemia.
The families of three patients with Crigler-Najjar hyperbilirubinaemia, type 2, whose plasma bilirubin levels had responded to phenobarbitone treatment, were investigated. All the parents and several relatives had mildly raised bilirubin levels. It is suggested that this condition may be an example of genetic heterogeneity and that the propositi had inherited two different abnormal genes. The s...
متن کاملFenofibrate treatment in two adults with Crigler-Najjar syndrome type II.
Crigler-Najjar syndrome type II is a rare familial disorder of bilirubin conjugation with consecutive life-long unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. In the presence of severe hyperbilirubinemia, a fetus or an adult is at risk for neurological defects in this syndrome. This paper is the first report emphasizing details about this disorder in two patients from Turkey. The diagnosis was made on the ba...
