This perspective has aligned whole organizations to central goals of continuing, customer-focused improvement. When looking to their own suppliers, these organizations naturally applied a similar perspective, one that aligns whole supply or value chains to central goals focused on the ultimate customers of these supply chains. As suppliers came to play a more and more integral part in efforts to align all relevant processes to customer needs, the strategic importance of the suppliers became increasingly obvious.
