چکیده

Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) as a part of a systematic infiltrative process is characterized by left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) thickening along with systolic and diastolic function impairment. Its poorer prognosis compared with other causes of LV wall thickening along with contemporary therapeutic options make the early detection and differential diagnosis of CA extremely important.

Echo Parameters for Differential Diagnosis in Cardiac Amyloidosis: A Head-to-Head Comparison of Deformation and Nondeformation Parameters.

BACKGROUND A plethora of echo parameters has been suggested for distinguishing cardiac amyloidosis (CA) from other causes of myocardial thickening with, however, scarce data on their head-to-head comparison. This study aimed at comparing the diagnostic accuracy of various deformation and conventional echo parameters in differentiating CA from other hypertrophic substrates, especially in the gra...

A rash with a heavy heart

Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is relatively rare and frequently misdiagnosed. Other disorders presenting with increased left ventricular (LV) mass can mimic its diagnosis. This case illustrates unique findings of primary light chain (AL) amyloidosis in a patient with remarkable signs of CA. Here, we report a 49-year-old man with prior diagnosis of hypertrophy cardiomyopathy (HCM) based on an echocar...

Cardiac amyloidosis presenting with prolonged QT interval and recurrent polymorphic ventricular tachycardia.

Cardiac amyloidosis results in severely symptomatic heart failure that has a poor prognosis because of the development of a restrictive cardiomyopathy. The diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis is often delayed because of nonspecific signs and symptoms. We report the case of a 66-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome and presented 5 months later with a long QT interval and r...

Comparison of right ventricular longitudinal strain imaging, tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion, and cardiac biomarkers for early diagnosis of cardiac involvement and risk stratification in primary systematic (AL) amyloidosis: a 5-year cohort study.

AIMS To determine the role of assessing right ventricular (RV) function, using standard echocardiography and Doppler myocardial imaging (DMI), in the early diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis and in the prediction of mortality. METHODS AND RESULTS Patients with primary systemic (AL) amyloidosis seen at our institution from 1 February 2004 through 31 October 2005 (N=249) were categorized by left ...

Noninvasive diagnosis of biopsy-proven cardiac amyloidosis.

OBJECTIVES This study analyzed the utility of electrocardiographic (ECG) and echocardiographic findings in the diagnosis of amyloidosis proven by endomyocardial biopsy. BACKGROUND Cardiac amyloidosis is associated with characteristic ECG and echocardiographic changes, yet each finding alone is relatively nonspecific. A combination of noninvasive prognostic parameters would be desirable for th...
