چکیده
CASE REPORT A 49 year-old female presented with a mass the size of a large grapefruit in the right gleno-humeral region. She described a constant ache from the lesion which had been present for about three months. There was some limitation of movement at the shoulder joint. There was no evidence of inflammation or lymphadenopathy. X-ray showed a large low density soft tissue mass in keeping with a lipomatous lesion. There was also a central focus of ossification with an unusual branching pattern resembling a candelabrum, which arose from the humeral cortex (Fig. 1). Spiral tomography confirmed the presence of a well defined fatty lesion containing an area of ossification and also showed that this mass abutted the lateral aspect of the uppermost part of the humeral diaphysis (Fig. 2). At excision biopsy it was thought the mass was an osteochondroma with an overlying lipoma.

Lump on Back: A Rare Case of Parosteal Lipoma of Scapula
Lipomas are benign tumors of mature adipose tissue which can occur in subcutaneous, intramuscular, intermuscular, parosteal, and intraosseous compartments. Parosteal lipoma is a rare type of lipoma, accounting for less than 0.1% of primary bone neoplasms and 0.3% of all lipomas. Parosteal lipomas commonly arise in the femur and extremities. Around 150 cases have been reported in English literat...
متن کاملLarge Parosteal Lipoma without Periosteal Changes
Parosteal lipoma is a rare tumor, accounting for approximately 0.3% of all lipomas. Bony lesions are often found in patients with this tumor (59.2%), making the differential diagnosis of malignant tumors important. Our case was a 64-year-old male patient who complained of a 25 × 15-cm mass on his right thigh that had grown rapidly over a 2-month period. On magnetic resonance imaging, a high-int...
متن کاملParosteal lipoma of the femur with hyperostosis: case report and literature review.
Lipomas may be defined as benign lesions of mature adipose tissue without evidence of cellular atypia. Lipomas are the most common soft tissue lesions and surprisingly are among the rarest bone neoplasias. Osseous lipomas have been classified according to their site of origin: either within bone (intraosseus) or on its surface (juxtacortical). Surface osseous lipomas are subdivided into paroste...
متن کاملOssifying parosteal lipoma of the thoracic spine: a case report and review of literature
INTRODUCTION Lipomas are derived from the mesodermal germ layer and are frequently encountered in adults, and account for almost 50% of all soft tissue tumors. Lipomas are classified based on their component tissues and location. A rare subtype, ossifying parosteal lipoma, accounts for 0.3% of all lipomas and occurs with intimate association with the underlying periosteum of the adjacent bone. ...

متن کاملPosterior Interosseous Nerve Palsy Caused by Parosteal Lipoma: A Case Report
An 83-year-old woman presented with weakness in her right-hand and wrist extensors and swelling in the proximal part of the right forearm. Electromyography (EMG) confirmed involvement of posterior interosseous nerve at the level of proximal forearm. MR imaging demonstrated the characteristics of lipoma which extended on the anterolateral aspect of the right forearm and at the level of the radiu...
