چکیده

The ecosystem service concept is becoming more and more acknowledged in science and decision-making. Taking an economic valuation approach, we quantified the economic value change of ecosystem services for different land use types in the middle basin of Heihe River, Northwest China. Eight ecosystem services indicators were selected: raw materials production, crop production, gas regulation, hydrological regulation, climate regulation, aesthetic values, soil conservation and biodiversity maintenance. Results are as follows: (1) Land areas for forest, grassland, farmland, wetland, water and desert have been decreased by 1.27%, 2.2%, 17.33%, 5.57% and 2.78% respectively, and farmland and human settlement have been increased by 9.91% and 16.42% in 2000-2009; (2) The potential total valuation of ecosystem services has decreased 26.07×1010 US $ in 2000-2009; (3) The total values of ecosystem services for forest, grassland, farmland, wetland and water have been decreased by 28.22%, 27.83%, 6.25%, 42.66% and 84.66% respectively, in contrast, the total value of ecosystem services for desert has been increased by 127.79%; (4) Driving forces of ecosystem services change and limitation of economic valuation in the research are also discussed. The method of economic valuation may be sufficient for local stakeholders to better understand the provision and change of ecosystem services in study area.

Analysis of Agricultural Land Use Change in the Middle Reach of the Heihe River Basin, Northwest China

The Heihe River Basin (HRB) is the second largest inland river basin in arid Northwest China. The expanding agricultural irrigation, growing industrialization, and increasing urban development in the middle reach have depleted much of the river flow to the lower reach, degrading the corresponding ecosystems. Since the enactment of the State Council of China's new HRB water allocation policy in ...

Impact of land use change on water resource allocation in the middle reaches of the Heihe River Basin in northwestern China

In recent decades, China has been experiencing rapid economic development, population growth and urbanization. These processes have stressed the shortages of water resources in China, especially in the arid regions of northwestern China. In order to sustain the expanding cropland, people increased groundwater exploitation in these regions. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively analyze...

Mapping the Soil Texture in the Heihe River Basin Based on Fuzzy Logic and Data Fusion

Mapping soil texture in a river basin is critically important for eco-hydrological studies and water resource management at the watershed scale. However, due to the scarcity of in situ observation of soil texture, it is very difficult to map the soil texture in high resolution using traditional methods. Here, we used an integrated method based on fuzzy logic theory and data fusion to map the so...

Model Estimation of Water Use Efficiency for Soil Conservation in the Lower Heihe River Basin, Northwest China during 2000–2008

There has been very limited research on water use efficiency for soil conservation (WUE-SC) in typical water scarce regions such as the lower Heihe River Basin, where there is serious wind erosion and the soil conservation service plays a key role in guaranteeing the ecological safety of Northern China. The soil conservation service, which was represented by the soil conservation amount (SC), w...

Modeling crop water consumption and water productivity in the middle reaches of Heihe River Basin

7 Heihe River Basin is located in the arid inland area of northwest China and is facing 8 serious water shortage problems. Since irrigation is the largest water consumer in the 9 middle reaches of the Basin, it is crucial to study the crop yields and water 10 consumption in order to improve the agricultural water productivity and to support 11 sustainable economic development in this region. Ba...
