چکیده

Terrain visualization has been an interesting issue for graphics people for long, and there have been a lot of attempts in various ways for more e cient visualization. In most of the works the terrain data was considered as a triangular mesh as it is, or as an implicit surface in which the original shape(topology) of the terrain can be slightly changed. Recently, the Morse Theory, [1, 2], has been involved to make the visualization of volume or surface more robust in modeling various shapes, [3]. However, the Morse theory has a weak point in degeneracy cases which may occur often in actual terrain data. In this paper, we describe a method of polygonization of the terrain data using topologically guarrented contours based on the analysis of critical points. Since the degeneracy is expected in the actual terrain data, a method of overcoming the degeneracy is discussed rst so that the Morse theory can be extended to the visualization of any discrete random scalar eld data. The contours for each elevation level will be generated by the in ation technique in which the topology of the shape can be accurately preserved. The Morse theory and analysys of critical points will also be described brie y.

Landforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data

During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...

Underground contour (UGC) mapping using potential field, well log and comparing with seismic interpretation in Lavarestan area

Coastal Fars gravimetry project in Fars province was carried out to find the buried salt domes and to determine characteristics of faults in this area. The Lavarestan structure was covered by 4203 gravimetry stations in a regular grid of 1000*250 m. Depth structural model of this anticline made in previous studies was based on geological evidences and structural geology measurements. In order t...

The Application of Contour Data for Generating High Fidelity Grid Digital Elevation Models

Digitized contours are increasingly being applied as a data source for generating regular grid digital elevation models (OEMs). The special characteristics of contours as a DEM data source, and some published contour-specific interpola tion algorithms, are reviewed in this paper. Test results for three algorithms are presented, employing both synthetic and real surface data. The algorithms are:...

Efficient polygonization of CSG solids using boundary tracking

In this paper, we propose a procedure that directly polygonizes the boundary surface of CSG solids. The procedure consists of a preprocessing step and a polygonization process followed by a postprocessing that recovers rounded edges and corners. In the preprocessing step, the minimum bounding volumes, called S-bounds, of all nodes in the given CSG tree are computed and then used as a basis for ...

Study on 3D Terrain Mapping Method Based on Triangulation

A new method is used to generate threedimensional terrain maps from discrete points in this paper. The process of generating terrain generates triangulation using the discrete points, by interpolation to calculate the elevation data of regular grid, with the Diamond-Square algorithm in fractal theory to further refine the grid data. The results of programming experiments show that realistic ter...
