LINEAR AND NONLINEAR OPTICAL RESPONSE OF Au AND Pt NANOPARTICLE SUSPENSIONS UNDER A LOW POWER LASER IRRADIATION AT 1064 nm

In this work, nonlinear refraction properties of gold (Au) and platinum (Pt) nanoparticles dispersed in the water are reported. The thermally induced effective nonlinear refractive index due to nonlocal heat effect is characterized by Zscan technique with a low power continuous wave (CW) laser at 1064 nm. This allows us to measure thermo-optic coefficient and effective nonlinear refractive index in the tested samples. Low power optical limiting, with low limiting thresholds is obtained in the samples based on thermal defocusing.
