Exploring Everyday Use Cases for Smart Glasses

Wearable computing in the form of glasses is about to take off as a mass-market phenomenon. However, there is still much to explore on social acceptance of the technology, key use cases, and privacy aspects. In this paper, we describe our study with twelve test participants (n=12) to investigate user perceptions of a wearable eye tracker concept. The study utilizes a method where (imaginary) use of the technology is prompted during a one week diary study period, and employs the use of a low-fi mock-up. In our early results from the study we found that users preferred the use of wearable technology outside of their homes, in dynamic outdoor scenarios where wearable technology can be used to augment experiences.
