چکیده

Superconductivity has been recently observed in Sr 0.4 Ca 13.6 Cu 24 O 41.84 which contains quasi–one–dimensional Cu 2 O 3 2–leg ladders. If, as suggested by some theories, the superconductivity arises from these 2–leg ladders, it will be important to determine the structure of the superconducting gap. In particular, does the gap on a 2–leg ladder change sign when one goes from the bonding to antibonding fermi surface points? Here we carry out phenomenological calculations of nuclear relaxation rates and inelastic neutron scattering intensity in order to provide estimates of the experimental resolution that will be required to determine the structure of the superconducting gap associated with an array of weakly coupled 2–leg ladders.

Cu NMR Study of Spin Dynamics in Low - dimensional Spin 1 / 2 Antiferromagnets

63 Cu and 170 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) experiments are reported on copper-oxide compounds related to high temperature superconductors that are nearly ideal realizations of spin 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets with different geometries of the magnetic interactions: 1 dimensional spin chains, 2 dimensional planes, two coupled chains (two-leg ladder),...

Raman Scattering from Magnetic Excitations in the Spin Ladder Compounds CaV 2 O 5 and MgV

We present the Raman scattering spectra of CaV 2 O 5 and MgV 2 O 5. Our analysis of the magnetic modes shows that the magnetic ordering in CaV 2 O 5 can be described using two-leg ladder Heisenberg antiferromagnetic model with J /J ⊥ ∼ 0.1, and a small interladder exchange. The spin-gap and exchange constant are estimated to be ∆ s ∼ 400 cm −1 (570 K) and J ⊥ ∼ 640 K. No magnon bound states are...

O NMR study of the local charge state in the hole - doped Cu 2 O 3 two - leg spin - ladder A 14 Cu 24 O 41

NMR measurements of the O nuclear quadrupole interactions nQ show that the charge environment of the S51/2 Cu2O3 two-leg spin-ladder layer of hole-doped A14Cu24O41 changes dramatically above a certain temperature T*. This temperature T* decreases with additional doping and is correlated with the magnetic crossover from the spin gap regime to the paramagnetic regime. We demonstrate that these ch...

Electronic structure of the trilayer cuprate superconductor Bi(2)Sr(2)Ca(2)Cu(3)O(10+delta).

The low-energy electronic structure of the nearly optimally doped trilayer cuprate superconductor Bi(2)Sr(2)Ca(2)Cu(3)O(10+delta) is investigated by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The normal state quasiparticle dispersion and Fermi surface and the superconducting d-wave gap and coherence peak are observed and compared with those of single- and bilayer systems. We find that both the ...

Collective Spin and Charge Excitations in (Sr,La)14−xCaxCu24O41 Quantum Spin Ladders

In 1988, material research focussed around the study of high temperature superconducting copper-oxides brought about new phases of Cu-O based systems, the two-leg spin-ladders (2LL's), that have the general formula (A 1−x A' x) 14 Cu 24 O 41 , with A an alkaline earth metal and A' a trivalent (transition or lanthanoid) metal [1, 2]. There were well-founded hopes that these materials could provi...
