presented in a clearer and more comprehensive way; thus, enabling clinicians to understand the advantages and shortcomings of idarucizumab. Furthermore, as mentioned above, there is a need for an independent prospective randomized trial, which compares current guideline-recommended practices for reversal of dabigatran with idarucizumab in patients with life-threatening bleedings and those requiring urgent surgery.

Effect of Fondaparinux on Coagulation Assays

● Context.—Fondaparinux, a factor Xa inhibitor, is approved for thromboprophylaxis after orthopedic surgery and for treatment of venous thromboembolism. It may also be efficacious, safe, and cost-effective for other patients; thus, more widespread use of fondaparinux is likely. The effect of fondaparinux on coagulation testing needs to be thoroughly examined. Objective.—To report the effects of...

Do PT and APTT sensitivities to factors' deficiencies calculated by the H47-A2 2008 CLSI guideline reflect the deficiencies found in plasmas from patients?

INTRODUCTION Prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) sensitivity for detecting isolated factor deficiencies varies with different reagents and coagulometers. The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) H47A2 guideline proposed a method to calculate these sensitivities, but some inconsistency has been reported. This study aimed to calculate factor sensit...

Evaluation of Antiphospholipid Antibodies and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time in Women with Adverse Outcome of Pregnancy

Adverse outcome of pregnancy is a potentially dangerous complication of conception and affects 15-20% of pregnancies. According to recent studies increased level of blood antiphospholipids antibodies, if accompanied by predisposing factors, can be an adverse event in human pregnancy. The aim of the present study was to compare the maternal serum levels of anticardiolipin and antiphosphatidyl se...

The role of coagulation abnormalities in the development of Perthes' disease.

Recent reports have suggested an association between Perthes' disease and an underlying thrombophilic or hypofibrinolytic tendency. In Northern Ireland there is a high incidence of Perthes' disease (11.7 per 100,000 or 1 in 607 children) in a stable paediatric population. We reviewed 139 children with Perthes' disease and compared them with a control group of 220 aged- and gender-matched health...
