چکیده

First I emphasize the magnetospheric loop current system induced by the wind activity. Next, I address the formation of the fieldaligned electric field. An interesting aspect is the reaction of the inner magnetosphere to an induced current. In the traditional outer gap, the current running through the gap is all carried by the particles created in the gap. However, if external current-carrying particles are added, the gap moves inward or outward; it can even appear near the star. It is suggested that the gaps appear at various altitudes, depending on the current distribution on field lines, the field line geometry, and the source of the current-carrying particles. For definiteness of sign of charge and current direction, Ω · μ > 0 is assumed throughout. 1. Magnetospheric Current System

The Characteristics of (Normal) Pulsars

Pulsars have now been studied for 34 years. We know of the existence of some 1500 objects at radio frequencies. Many of the characteristics of pulsars such as pulsar period, period derivative, spectrum, polarization, etc., have been catalogued for many objects. Still we do not know the details of the pulsar emission mechanism. The present review will give an up-to-date description of the charac...

Letter to the Editor Pulsar detection at 87 GHz

Pulsed radio emission at 87 GHz has been detected from the pulsar PSR B0355+54. The observed flux density of 0.5 ± 0.2 mJy is, within the measurement errors, the same as measured previously at 43GHz and is thus higher than expected. However the errors are such that all the measurements at frequencies higher than 1.2 GHz are just consistent with a single power law spectrum. A second pulsar, PSR ...

Discovery of Radio Pulsations from the X-ray Pulsar J0205+6449 in Supernova Remnant 3c58 with the Green Bank Telescope

We report the discovery with the 100 m Green Bank Telescope of 65 ms radio pulsations from the X-ray pulsar J0205+6449 at the center of supernova remnant 3C58, making this possibly the youngest radio pulsar known. From our observations at frequencies of 820 and 1375 MHz, the free electron column density to PSR J0205+6449 is found to be 140.7± 0.3 cm−3 pc. The barycentric pulsar period P and Ṗ d...

Radio pulsar microstructure at 1 . 41 and 4 . 85 GHz

We report on observations of microstructure at 4.85 and 1.41 GHz of pulsars strong enough for the observation of single pulses with time resolution between 7 µs and 160 µs. All five pulsars observed at 4.85 GHz show microstructure in a large fraction of their pulses. We confirm that microstructure seems to be a common property of the pulsar emission mechanism and not only an additional feature ...

A 1400-MHz pilot search for young pulsars

We have used the Effelsberg 100-m radio telescope to conduct a 1400-MHz (λ 21-cm) search for young and rapidly rotating radio pulsars along a 2 deg2 strip of the northern Galactic plane defined by 28◦ ≤ l ≤ 30◦ and |b| ≤ 0.5◦. This region lies close to the Scutum spiral arm which is already known to contain a number of radio and X–ray pulsars. The search was nominally sensitive to pulsars with ...
