Validation Procedure for the Meris Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (mtci)

چکیده
The MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (MTCI) is designed to monitor vegetation condition via an estimation of chlorophyll content. Its simplicity of calculation, suitability for automation and most importantly, sensitivity to all and notably, high values of chlorophyll content made it a suitable level-2 ESA product. This index effectively combines information on leaf area index and the chlorophyll concentration of leaves to produce image of chlorophyll content (i.e., the amount of chlorophyll per unit area of ground). It has now been used in several applications in which vegetation condition has been monitored at local to regional scales. However, MTCI has not yet been ‘validated’ using real chlorophyll content data collected at the spatial resolution of MERIS data (300m). This paper describes the procedure to validate this at MERIS spatial resolution.

Methodologies and Uncertainties in the Use of the Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index for the Sentinel-3 Mission
A methodology is described for the validation of Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (MTCI) data over heterogeneous land surfaces in an agricultural region in Southern Italy. The approach involves the use inverse canopy reflectance modeling techniques to derive maps of canopy chlorophyll content (CCC) and leaf area index (LAI) at fine spatial resolution....
متن کاملCharacterizing Spatial-Temporal Variations in Vegetation Phenology over the North-South Transect of Northeast Asia Based upon the MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index
This study attempted to establish a broad regional phenological pattern for Northeast Asia using time-series data of the satellite measured index of terrestrial chlorophyll content (MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index) from 2003 to 2007. A suite of phenological variables were extracted from 4 integral seasons of time-series Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) Terrestrial Chlorophyll ...
متن کاملMtci: the Meris Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index
The long wavelength edge of the major chlorophyll absorption feature in the spectrum of a vegetation canopy moves to longer wavelengths with an increase in chlorophyll content. The position of this red-edge has been used successfully to estimate, by remote sensing, the chlorophyll content of vegetation canopies. Techniques used to estimate this red-edge position (REP) have been designed for use...
متن کاملThe Relationship between the Meris Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index and Chlorophyll Content
The MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index (MTCI), a standard level 2 ESA product, provides information on the chlorophyll content of vegetation (amount of chlorophyll per unit area of ground). This is a combination of information on leaf area index (LAI, area of leaves per unit area of ground) and the chlorophyll concentration of those leaves. The MTCI correlates strongly with chlorophyll content...
متن کاملVegetation assessment in East Africa using MGVI and Red Edge Position from ENVISAT MERIS data
The actual condition of vegetation cover is represented by its spectral signature. Photosynthetic active vegetation is characterized by a low reflectance in the red and a high reflectance in the near infrared spectra. This specific feature is used to calculate different vegetation indices. One index is the MERIS Global Vegetation Index (MGVI), the other one is the Red Edge Position (REP), which...
