چکیده

Due to the emphasis on silicon junction temperatures in product testing, accura te velocities are typically not measured. Thus it is difficult to determine the flow boundary conditions for a numerical the rmal / f lu id analysis. Thermal conductivity values provided by vendors can also be in error. A calibration procedure using only simple temperature measu remen t s was developed to correlate a numer i ca l model to the physical system. The calibrated model was then used to predict the performance of several proposed heats ink designs. The predicted performance correlated well with experimental results.

Improving the natural convective heat transfer of a rectangular heatsink using superhydrophobic walls: A numerical approach

The effect of utilizing superhydrophobic walls on improving the convective heat transfer in a rectangular heatsink has been studied numerically in this paper. The vertical walls were kept at isothermal hot-and-cold temperatures and horizontal walls were insulated. The boundary condition on the walls was: no-slip for regular, and slip (with slip length of 500 µm) for superhydrophobic walls. By c...

Cooling Behavior in a Novel Heat Sink Based on Multilayer Staggered Honeycomb Structure

A novel heatsink based on a multilayer stack of thin metal plates with staggered honeycomb cell microchannels was investigated in this paper. A series of working-parametric tests such as different heat sink pipe diameter and pumping power were conducted for the microchannel cooling system to determine the heat transfer performance under small flow rate conditions. For the double fluid flow inle...

Efficiency and Cost Tradeoffs Between Aluminum and Zinc- Aluminum Die Cast Heatsinks

High purity aluminum has always been a good heatsink material for removing heat from electronic components. However, the manufacturing of specialty shaped, non-extrusion based heatsinks, causes many material-based problems. High purity aluminum is very difficult to die cast and impurities must normally be added to aid in the die casting process. These small amounts of impurities cause the therm...

Three Dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell

A full three-dimensional, single phase computational fluid dynamics model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) with both the gas distribution flow channels and the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) has been developed. A single set of conservation equations which are valid for the flow channels, gas-diffusion electrodes, catalyst layers, and the membrane region are developed and numer...

Thermal management of the remote phosphor layer in LED systems

Generally in a white light-emitting diode (LED), a phosphor slurry is placed around the semiconductor chip or the phosphor is conformally coated over the chip to covert the narrowband, short-wavelength radiation to a broadband white light. Over the past few years, the remote-phosphor method has provided significant improvement in overall system efficiency by reducing the photons absorbed by the...
