Reflection-time-of-flight spectrometer for two-electron (e,2e) coincidence spectroscopy on surfaces.

چکیده
In this article, a novel time-of-flight spectrometer for two-electron-emission (e,2egamma,2e) correlation spectroscopy from surfaces at low electron energies is presented. The spectrometer consists of electron optics that collect emitted electrons over a solid angle of approximately 1 sr and focus them onto a multichannel plate using a reflection technique. The flight time of an electron with kinetic energy of Ekin approximately 25 eV is around 100 ns. The corresponding time- and energy resolution are typically approximately 1 ns and approximately 0.65 eV, respectively. The first (e,2e) data obtained with the present setup from a LiF film are presented.

Developments in the measurement of spectral momentum densities with (e,2e) spectrometers
The introduction of multiparameter high energy electron momentum spectroscopy (EMS) spectrometers, with high energy and momentum resolution and coincidence count rates, has made it possible to obtain detailed information on the electronic structure of condensed matter and surfaces. In particular it gives direct information on the spectral-momentum density of the material under study, which may ...
متن کاملThe (e,2e) spectroscopy, achievements and perspectives
Electron-electron coincidence experiments have experienced over the past twenty years an increasingly rapid expansion and application to many different fields. Among them, the (e,2e) spectroscopy has been successfully used to investigate either the target electronic structure or the ionisation dynamics. The capability of this spectroscopy to investigate single particle properties in atoms, mole...
متن کاملThe direct measurement of spectral momentum densities of silicon with high energy (e, 2e) spectroscopy
Electron momentum spectroscopy is a coincidence technique that measures the spectral momentum density of matter. In this paper we outline the theoretical framework underlying these measurements, give a description of the spectrometer, and show in detail the information this technique can provide for the prototypical material silicon. We present results for single crystals as well as amorphous s...
متن کاملDesign, Construction and Calibration of a Laser Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer
A time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOF-MS) developed in our laboratory at Isfahan University of Technology is described here. The TOF-MS instrument uses laser as the ionization source which provides an opportunity to investigate the ions formed in laser ablation or desorption. The TOF-MS has an ionization chamber containing an accelerator and an ion lens to focus the ions into a one meter line...
متن کاملA simple electron time-of-flight spectrometer for ultrafast vacuum ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy of liquid solutions.
We present a simple electron time of flight spectrometer for time resolved photoelectron spectroscopy of liquid samples using a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) source produced by high-harmonic generation. The field free spectrometer coupled with the time-preserving monochromator for the VUV at the Artemis facility of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory achieves an energy resolution of 0.65 eV at 40 eV ...
