Hysteretic sediment fluxes in rainfall-driven soil erosion

چکیده
Hysteresis patterns of different sediment particle sizes were studied via a detailed laboratory study and modelling. Seven continuous rainfall events with stepwisevarying rainfall intensities (15, 30, 45, 60, 45, 30 and 15 mmh-1, each 20 min duration) were conducted using a 5-m× 2-m erosion flume. Flow rates and sediment concentration data were measured using flume discharge samples, and interpreted using the Hairsine and Rose (HR) soil erosion model. The total sediment concentration and concentrations of

Hysteretic sediment fluxes in rainfall-driven soil erosion: Particle size effects
A detailed laboratory study was conducted to examine the effects of particle size on hysteretic sediment transport under time-varying rainfall. A rainfall pattern composed of seven sequential stepwise varying rainfall intensities (30, 37.5, 45, 60, 45, 37.5, and 30 mm h), each of 20 min duration, was applied to a 5 m 3 2 m soil erosion flume. The soil in the flume was initially dried, ploughed ...
متن کاملInteractive effects of grazing and burning on wind- and water-driven sediment fluxes: rangeland management implications.
Rangelands are globally extensive, provide fundamental ecosystem services, and are tightly coupled human-ecological systems. Rangeland sustainability depends largely on the implementation and utilization of various grazing and burning practices optimized to protect against soil erosion and transport. In many cases, however, land management practices lead to increased soil erosion and sediment f...
متن کاملSustainable soil and water resources: modelling soil erosion and its impact on the environment
With the projected increase in world population to 9 billion by 2050, along with per capita income growth, the demand for land and water resources is going to increase significantly. Conversion of land to intensive agriculture has led to dramatic decreases in plant, animal and insect biodiversity, with approximately 40% of the world’s land surface now covered by croplands and pastures. Intensiv...
متن کاملThe effect of surface rock fragments deployment pattern on soil erosion processes under simulated conditions
Extended abstract 1- Introduction The Soil surface characteristics have significant effects on the erosion process. The wide areas of watershed soil surfaces are covered with considerable amounts of rocks and pebbles. Surface rock fragments, resulting in water connectivity, change during the erosion process. Rock fragments on the soil surface may increase the infiltration and reduce soil loss...
متن کاملSelectivity of Particles through Rill Erosion in Different Soil Textures
Sediment selectivity during transport may provide basic information for evaluating on-site and off-site impacts of the soil erosion. Limited information is, however, available on the selectivity of sediments in rill erosion, particularly in the rainfed furrows. Toward this, the sediment selectivity was investigated in three soil textures (loam, loamy sand sand clay loam) under 10% slope using 9...
