چکیده

In this paper, a novel detection and quantification method of control valve stiction is discussed. A time delay estimation method is presented for processes under an oscillating state. A suitable model structure of valve stiction is chosen prior to conducting valve stiction detection and quantification. Given the stiction model structure, a bounded search space of a stiction model is defined and a constrained optimization problem is performed. The validity of the proposed method is illustrated through industrial examples.

Detection and Quantification of Control Valve Stiction

Stiction is one of the most common problems in the spring-diaphragm type control valves, which are widely used in the process industry. Although there have been many attempts to understand and detect stiction in control valves, none of the current methods can simultaneously detect and quantify stiction. There is thus a clear need in the process industry for a non-invasive method that can not on...

Stiction identification in nonlinear process control loops

Nearly 20-30% of all process control loops oscillate due to stiction and lead to loss of productivity. Thus, the detection and quantification of stiction in control valves using just the raw operating data is an important component of any automated controller performance monitoring application. Many techniques have been proposed for the detection and quantification of stiction. Pattern based id...

The method based on the calculation of areas before and after the peak of an oscillating signal

Stiction in control valve is one of the long-standing and common problems in the process industries, which accelerates equipment wear and even affects the stability of closed-loop systems. A valve stiction model is proposed to describe the dynamic feature of sticky valve. To detect and quantify valve stiction, a bootstrap Hammerstein system identification procedure is proposed. Through the iden...

Valve backlash and stiction detection in integrating processes

Valve nonlinearities are responsible for producing limit cycles in the loop and consequently decreasing plant performance. In the case of an integrating plant, once the loop oscillation is detected, the engineer should distinguish between stiction and backlash, but no method is available in the literature to address this class of problem. In this paper, it is proposed a data-driven method to di...

Detection of Stiction in Interacting Systems using a Hammerstein Model Approach

Automated non-invasive diagnosis and localization of the root cause of oscillations in process plants is a widely held industry goal sought in order to stabilize product qualities and reduce equipment problems and energy costs. As stiction in control valves is one of the leading causes of oscillations in plant variables, detection and localization of valve stiction is a major part of any method...
