Is there only one set of genes for different abilities? A reanalysis of the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) data.

چکیده
Using the genetical analysis of covariance structure it is shown that the single factor model of Plomin and DeFries [(1979). Behav. Genet. 9:505-517J fails as a description of the structure of genetic covariation between the subtests of the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. A genetic group factor which loads on Vocabulary, Social Studies, and English greatly improves the fit of the model. There is also a large portion of genetic variance specific to Mathematics and it is argued that the genetic variance for different abilities is far from homogeneous in its origin. The data suggest that a single dimension of mate selection or cultural inheritance accounts for a significant part of the phenotypic covariance between measures.

A comparative study of quantitative mapping methods for bias correction of ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data
This study evaluates the ability of different quantitative mapping (QM) methods as a bias correction technique for ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data. Climate type and geographical location can affect the performance of the bias correction method due to differences in precipitation characteristics. For this purpose, ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data for the years 1989-2019 for 10 selected syno...

Abstract: In disease gene identification and classification, users are only interested in classifying one specific class, disease genes, without considering other classes (non-disease genes). This situation is referred to as one-class classification. Existing machine learning-based methods typically use known disease gene as positive training set and unknown genes as negative training set to bu...
متن کاملEstimation of Punching Shear Capacity of Concrete Slabs Using Data Mining Techniques
Punching shear capacity is a key factor for governing the collapsed form of slabs. This fragile failure that occurs at the slab-column connection is called punching shear failure and has been of concern for the engineers. The most common practice in evaluating the punching strength of the concrete slabs is to use the empirical expressions available in different building design codes. The estima...
متن کاملStudent Loans and the Labor Market: Evidence from Merit Aid Programs
Student loans are a growing part of the college funding equation in the US, while at the same time merit aid scholarship programs have become an increasingly popular avenue for states to subsidize higher education. To evaluate the effects of college funding on the early labor market outcomes of college graduates, I use merit aid program eligibility in thirteen states with sharp test score cutof...
