چکیده

The energy spectra of neutrons, protons, and α-particles have been measured from the d+59Co and 3He+58Fe reactions leading to the same compound nucleus, 61Ni. The experimental cross sections have been compared to Hauser-Feshbach model calculations using different input level density models. None of them have been found to agree with experiment. It manifests the serious problem with available level density parametrizations especially those based on neutron resonance spacings and density of discrete levels. New level densities and corresponding Fermi-gas parameters have been obtained for reaction product nuclei such as 60Ni, 60Co, and 57Fe.

Applicability of the Hauser-Feshbach approach for the determination of astrophysical reaction rates

Nuclear Astrophysics requires the knowledge of reaction rates over a wide range of nuclei and temperatures. In recent calculations the nuclear level density – as an important ingredient to the statistical model (Hauser-Feshbach) – has shown the highest uncertainties. In a back-shifted fermi-Gas formalism utilizing an energy-dependent level density parameter and employing microscopic corrections...

Complete inclusion of parity-dependent level densities in the statistical description of astrophysical reaction rates

Microscopic calculations show a strong parity dependence of the nuclear level density at low excitation energy of a nucleus. Previously, this dependence has either been neglected or only implemented in the initial and final channels of Hauser-Feshbach calculations. We present an indirect way to account for a full parity dependence in all steps of a reaction, including the one of the compound nu...

The Nuclear Level Density and the Determination of Thermonuclear Rates for Astrophysics

The prediction of cross sections for nuclei far off stability is crucial in the field of nuclear astrophysics. In recent calculations the nuclear level density – as an important ingredient to the statistical model (Hauser-Feshbach) – has shown the highest uncertainties. We present a global parametrization of nuclear level densities based on the back-shifted Fermi-Gas formalism. Employment of an...

Acquisition Current Integration Diaphragm Current Electron Suppression

As a continuation of a systematic study of reactions relevant to the astrophysical p process, the cross sections of the 74,76 Se(p,γ) 75,77 Br and 82 Se(p,n) 82 Br reactions have been measured at energies from 1.3 to 3.6 MeV using an activation technique. The results are compared to the predictions of Hauser-Feshbach statistical model calculations using the NON-SMOKER and MOST codes. The sensit...

Determination of α - nucleus potentials by elastic scattering on p - nuclei

Abundance calculations for the p-nuclei involve an extended network of about 20,000 nuclear reactions of almost 2,000 nuclei. These rates are calculated with the statistical Hauser Feshbach Model (HF-Model). Elastic scattering experimental data provides a test for the global parameterizations of optical potentials that are used in these statistical model calculations. Recent experiments suggest...
