چکیده

PURPOSE The aim of this paper is to investigate how waiting lists or queues could be reduced without adding more resources; and to describe what factors sustain reduced waiting-times. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH Cases were selected according to successful and sustained queue reduction. The approach in this study is action research. FINDINGS Accessibility improved as out-patient waiting lists for two clinics were reduced. The main success was working towards matching demand and capacity. It has been possible to sustain the improvements. RESEARCH LIMITATIONS/IMPLICATIONS Results should be viewed cautiously. Transferring and generalizing outcomes from this study is for readers to consider. However, accessible healthcare may be possible by paying more attention to existing solutions. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS The study indicates that queue reduction activities should include acquiring knowledge about theories and methods to improve accessibility, finding ways to monitor varying demand and capacity, and to improve patient processing by reducing variations. ORIGINALITY/VALUE Accessibility is considered an important dimension when measuring service quality. However, there are few articles on how clinic staff sustain reduces waiting lists. This paper contributes accessible knowledge to the field.

Treatment on demand: an operational model.

The goal of "treatment on demand" is to allow all those seeking substance abuse treatment immediate entry into a program. Surprisingly, little is understood regarding the relationship between the demand for treatment, queues, waiting times and treatment admission rates, and treatment capacity. Nor has the increase in treatment capacity required to eliminate drug treatment queues, along with the...

Optimal energy distribution and storage in a wind-based renewable electricity supply chain

Nowadays, utilization of renewable energies for satisfying electricity demand has received more interest, and renewable electricity generation has been growing in the world. This study addresses the operational planning of a renewable electricity supply chain over a multi-period planning horizon. The purpose of this study is to maximize total profit and to optimize the operational decisions rel...

Seasonal variations of microbial community in a full scale oil field produced water treatment plant

This study investigated the microbial community in a full scale anaerobic baffled reactor and sequencing batch reactor system for oil-produced water treatment in summer and winter. The community structures of fungi and bacteria were analyzed through polymerase chain reaction–denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and Illumina high-throughput sequencing, respectively. Chemical oxygen demand eff...

Vehicle Queue Detection in Satellite Images of Urban Areas

There is an increasing demand in traffic monitoring of densely populated urban areas. In our approach we use a priori information of roads location and focus on vehicle queues detection. In this imagery single vehicles are merged to either dark or bright ribbons and therefore can hardly be separated. The queues can be extracted as lines in scale space using a differential geometric approach. We...

Efficiency and Effectiveness with interval indices in stochastic environments

Non-parametric DEA is a technique on the basic of mathematical programming to determine the efficiency of homological decision making units. DEA models changes in demand cause changes in variations in output levels and also will cause changes in a firm’s inefficiency. Often a firm can adjust input influencing on the output level. Models designed with technique on DEA that considers changes in d...
