Analysis and Design of AQM based on State-Space Models for Stabilizing TCP

چکیده
In this paper, we formulate the AQM (Active Queue Management) design problem for stabilizing a given TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) as state-space models. Thereby, we show that PD-type (Proportional-Derivative) AQM is a natural state-feedback control structure to stabilize the given TCP for the first time in the networking literature to our knowledge and by applying integral control action, a PID-type (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) control structure that is a unified framework for analysis and design of AQM. Second, we compensate for delays in congestion measure explicitly by using a memory control. Third, we obtain stabilizing optimal gains of the proposed feedback control structures for linearized systems of the given TCP. We interpret existing AQMs, including a simplified RED (Random Early Detection), REM (Random Exponential Marking), PI (Proportional-Integral) and a simplified AVQ (Adaptive Virtual Queue), as different approximations of the unified AQM structure. We discuss the impact of each structure on performance from the results of the stabilizing optimal AQMs. Finally. we illustrate our results through ns simulations for TCP Reno.

متن کاملDesign of AQM in supporting TCP based on the well-known AIMD model
In this paper, we investigate how to design AQM with a low-pass filter (average queuing) in supporting TCP based on the well-known AIMD dynamic model sharing a common bottleneck router. Since we formulate the AQM design problem for the given TCP as a state-space model, we get two interesting and important results: 1) We derive PD-type (Proportional-Derivative) AQM structure in terms of queue le...
متن کاملDesign of H Congestion Controller for TCP Networks Based on LMI Formulation
In this paper, a state feedback H¥ controller is proposed in order to design an active queue management (AQM) system based on congestion control algorithm for networks supporting TCP protocols. In this approach, the available link bandwidth is modeled as a time-variant disturbance. The purpose of this paper is to design a controller which is capable of achieving the queue size and can guarantee...
متن کاملA Stabilizing AQM Based on Virtual Queue Dynamics in Supporting TCP with Arbitrary Delays
This paper studies how to design a stabilizing AQM in supporting TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) with arbitrary delays. For the well-known AIMD (Additive Increase Multiplicative Decrease) dynamic model of TCP, our study shows that we can compensate for arbitrary delays explicitly by applying a modified virtual queue dynamics that makes the equilibrium queuing delay zero. This study also ver...
متن کاملDesign of Lyapunov based controllers as TCP AQM
The paper considers the design of robust AQM for the congestion problem of a router. Using a state space representation of a linearized fluid model of TCP, we provide an AQM which stabilises the queue length of the buffer for any delay less than a prescribed upper bound. Our results rely on the use of recently developed Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and have been expressed in terms of Linear M...
