چکیده

An effective ttamiltonian, which includes a coupling between spins and orbitals, is derived for manganites by taking into account the Hund coupling, on-site Coulomb interaction and orbital degeneracy of the eg state. By using the effective Hamiltonian, magnetic structures, spin and orbital excitations are studied in a mean .field approximation for the undoped insulating phase and in the exact diagonalization method for the undoped and 50 % doped charge-ordered phases. It is shown that the coupling between spins and orbitals is crucial to the magnetic structures and that the so-called A-type AF is realized by self-adjusting the orbital ordering. Implication to the colossal magnetoresistance in manganites is given.

The optical conductivity is studied numerically for the ferromagnetic metallic state close to the charge ordering observed in perovskite manganites. We focus on roles of the charge fluctuation on the incoherent component in the optical spectra, and consider the Coulomb interaction in the one-and two-dimensional spinless fermion models. The numerical results show that the incoherent part is not ...

Ordered states of Manganite and Dynamical mean-field theory

Pure LaMnO3 is an insulator. But, when doped with appropriate amount of doubly valenced impurities, it becomes a conductor retaining the ferromagnetism. Notion of double exchange has been devised to explain this phenomena. Along with this ferromagnetic conductivity, manganites show a variety of physical properties. Some of spin, charge, and orbital orderings are illustrated. Neutron scattering ...

Structural, electric, and magnetic properties of Mn perovskites

Recently, the interesting electric or magnetic properties such as high-Tc superconductivity and colossal magnetoresistance bring forth intense interests in transition metal oxides with perovskite structure in the field. Those interesting properties originate in the strong couplings among charge, spin, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom. More various novel and complex phase transitions can ...

Two Ferromagnetic States in Magnetoresistive Manganites - First Order Transition Driven by Orbitals

A systematic study of the electronic structure in perovskite manganites is presented. The effective Hamiltonian is derived by taking into account the degeneracy of eg orbitals and strong electron correlation in Mn ions. The spin and orbital orderings are examined as functions of carrier concentration in the mean-field approximation applied to the effective Hamiltonian. We obtain the first order...

Resonant x-ray scattering in 3d-transition-metal oxides: Anisotropy and charge orderings

The structural, magnetic and electronic properties of transition metal oxides reflect in atomic charge, spin and orbital degrees of freedom. Resonant x-ray scattering (RXS) allows us to perform an accurate investigation of all these electronic degrees. RXS combines high-Q resolution x-ray diffraction with the properties of the resonance providing information similar to that obtained by atomic s...
