Bands and Bonds

چکیده

The chemical bond arises from a redistribution of electronic charge when atoms are brought in close proximity. The bond in a solid results from the superposition of charge densities of all atoms in the system. In an atom all electrons reside in their ground states at equilibrium. Only a few low lying excited states are typically accessed. The chemical bond in the solid consists of excited electronic configurations which are created to satisfy the constraints of a minimum energy, semi-infinite solid. These constraints create not only a variation on atomic energy level structure, but a compromise between the limiting classifications of bonding. These limiting classifications and their compromises are discussed in this section.

Comparison Of Hyperbolic And Constant Width Simultaneous Confidence Bands in Multiple Linear Regression Under MVCS Criterion

‎A simultaneous confidence band gives useful information on the reasonable range of the unknown regression model‎. ‎In this note‎, ‎when the predictor variables are constrained to a special ellipsoidal region‎, ‎hyperbolic and constant width confidence bonds for a multiple linear regression model are compared under the minimum volome confidence set (MVCS) criterion‎. ‎The size of one speical an...

Quantitative IR Spectroscopy of ff - Bonds : Intensities of v , Bands

intensities of the ''s bands (X-H· · ·Y), which are highly cha-· racteristic of H-bonds. These intensities have shown some intriguing features: upon deuteration of the H-bond they often decrease far more than expected. This is particularly marked for the H-bonded cyclic dimers of carboxylic acids. It can be explained by electrical anharmonicity but can also be a manifestation of some cooperativ...

Low temperature FTIR spectroscopy and hydrogen bonding in cytosine polycrystals.

The FTIR spectra of both the pure NH and isotopically substituted ND (<10% and >90% D) polycrystalline cytosine were recorded in the range 400-4000 cm(-1) as a function of temperature (10-300 K). For the first time, uncoupled NH(D) stretching mode bands of amine and imine groups were observed in the spectra of isotopically diluted cytosine at low temperatures. These bands correspond to the thre...

Infrared spectroscopic study of C7 intramolecular hydrogen bonds in peptides.

The ir-spectra in the N-H stretching region of Piv-Pro-NHMe and Boc-Pro-NHMe have been studied in carbon tetrachloride and chloroform solutions over a wide range of concentrations. Based on the concentration dependence of the N-H stretching bands, i t has been shown that the characteristic N-H stretching band due to the C7 intramolecular hydrogen bond is around 3335 cm-'. Intermolecular hydroge...

Hydrogen-bonds structure in poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) studied by temperature-dependent infrared spectroscopy

Hydrogen-bonds structure in poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) were investigated by means of temperature-dependent infrared (IR) spectroscopy. Spectral variations involved with the OH…OH and C=O…HO types of hydrogen-bonds were found around the glass transition temperature of 80°C. Hydrogen-bonds among the hydroxyl groups gradually dissociate with increasing temperature. In contrast, disc...

Uncoupled peptide bond vibrations in alpha-helical and polyproline II conformations of polyalanine peptides.

We examined the 204-nm UV resonance Raman (UVR) spectra of the polyproline II (PPII) and alpha-helical states of a 21-residue mainly alanine peptide (AP) in different H2O/D2O mixtures. Our hypothesis is that if the amide backbone vibrations are coupled, then partial deuteration of the amide N will perturb the amide frequencies and Raman cross sections since the coupling will be interrupted; the...
