Dynamic voltage collapse prediction in power systems using support vector regression
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents dynamic voltage collapse prediction on an actual power system using support vector regression. Dynamic voltage collapse prediction is first determined based on the PTSI calculated from information in dynamic simulation output. Simulations were carried out on a practical 87 bus test system by considering load increase as the contingency. The data collected from the time domain simulation is then used as input to the SVR in which support vector regression is used as a predictor to determine the dynamic voltage collapse indices of the power system. To reduce training time and improve accuracy of the SVR, the Kernel function type and Kernel parameter are considered. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed SVR method, its performance is compared with the multi layer perceptron neural network (MLPNN). Studies show that the SVM gives faster and more accurate results for dynamic voltage collapse prediction compared with the MLPNN. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملOnline Voltage Stability Monitoring and Prediction by Using Support Vector Machine Considering Overcurrent Protection for Transmission Lines
In this paper, a novel method is proposed to monitor the power system voltage stability using Support Vector Machine (SVM) by implementing real-time data received from the Wide Area Measurement System (WAMS). In this study, the effects of the protection schemes on the voltage magnitude of the buses are considered while they have not been investigated in previous researches. Considering overcurr...
متن کاملA Fast Voltage Collapse Detection and Prevention Based on Wide Area Monitoring and Control
Voltage stability is one of the most important factors in maintaining reliable operation of power systems. When a disturbance occurs in the power system, it usually causes instabilities and sometimes leads to voltage collapse (VC). To avoid such problems, a novel approach called Vector Analysis (VA) is proposed that exploits a new instability detection index to provide wide area voltage stabili...
متن کاملAssessment of the Risk of Voltage Collapse in a Power System Using Intelligent Techniques
This paper describes the implementation of a fast and easy-to-use, intelligence-based algorithm to assess the risk of voltage collapse when risk is defined as the product of the event likelihood and a severity function. In the event likelihood, the effect of weather is taken into account; the failure rate of each transmission line under different weather conditions is calculated using real hist...
متن کاملA Nonlinear Voltage Stability Index based on Vector Analysis Method and Measurements of Active and Reactive Powers of Power System
This paper proposes a new voltage stability assessment method based on vector analysis method. This index extraction process relies on measurements of active and reactive powers from connected buses to the generator buses. Therefore, a limit for beginning of voltage collapse is determined based on the maximum power transfer theory. On the other hand, when the system requires load shedding, a ne...
