Convergence based synchronization of unilaterally constrained multibody systems

چکیده
The convergence property of a dynamical system is a strong condition with various useful implications. A convergent system exhibits a bounded globally attractively stable solution and thus its asymptotic (or symptotic) behaviour is independent of initial conditions. This paper presents conditions for the convergence property of mechanical systems submitted to unilateral constraints. A key role plays the maximal monotonicity of the impact law, which is a stronger condition than dissipativity. The convergence property can directly be used for the design of a state observer for mechanical systems with unilateral constraints. These observers are based on master-slave synchronization and replicate the full state of the observed system for every choice of initial conditions using only the impact time instants. The results are illustrated with the example of a harmonically excited beam with unilateral support.

The Comparison of Direct and Indirect Optimization Techniques in Equilibrium Analysis of Multibody Dynamic Systems
The present paper describes a set of procedures for the solution of nonlinear static-equilibrium problems in the complex multibody mechanical systems. To find the equilibrium position of the system, five optimization techniques are used to minimize the total potential energy of the system. Comparisons are made between these techniques. A computer program is developed to evaluate the equality co...
متن کاملOn the Numerical Solution of Constrained Multibody Dynamic Systems
A new formulation of the equations of motion of constrained multibody systems is presented using a coordinate-splitting (CS) technique. In contrast to the conventional index reduction techniques which apply diierentiation to the Lagrange formulation, this approach applies the coordinate-split operator to the variational form of constrained dynamics, yielding consistent dynamic equations of mult...

In this paper we present a coordinate-split (CS) technique for the numerical solution of the equations of motion of constrained multibody dynamic systems. We show how the coordinate-split technique can be implemented within the context of commonly used solution methods, for increased eeciency and reliability. A particularly challenging problem for multibody dynamics is the numerical solution of...
متن کاملGamma-convergence of Variational Integrators for Constrained Systems
For a physical system described by a motion in an energy landscape under holonomic constraints, we study the -convergence of variational integrators to the corresponding continuum action functional and the convergence properties of solutions of the discrete Euler–Lagrange equations to stationary points of the continuum problem. This extends the results in Müller and Ortiz (J. Nonlinear Sci. 14:...
متن کاملDisplacement Potentials in Non-Smooth Dynamics
The paper treats the evaluation of the accelerations in rigid multibody systems which are subjected to displacement dependent setvalued force interactions. The interaction laws are represented by nonsmooth displacement potentials and derived through generalized differentiation. The resulting multifunctions contain the cases of smooth force characteristics, bilateral constraints, as well as comb...
