چکیده

Traditional approaches to designing agent interactions focus on defining agent interaction in terms of legal sequences of messages. These messagecentric approaches are not a good match with autonomous proactive agents since they unnecessarily limit the agents’ autonomy and flexibility. The Hermes methodology proposes an approach for designing agent interactions in terms of interaction goals. In this paper we focus on how Hermes designs can be implemented by mapping the design artefacts to collections of plans.

Hermes: Designing Flexible and Robust Agent Interactions

Although intelligent agents individually exhibit a number of characteristics, including social ability, flexibility, and robustness, which make them suitable to operate in complex, dynamic, and error-prone environments, these characteristics are not exhibited in multi-agent interactions. For instance, agent interactions are often not flexible or robust. This is due to the traditional message-ce...

Improving Flexibility and Robustness in Agent Interactions: Extending Prometheus with Hermes

A crucial part of multi-agent system design is the design of agent interactions. Traditional approaches to designing agent interaction use interaction protocols, which focus on defining legal sequences of messages. Such approaches do not naturally exhibit flexibility and robustness, and are not a good match for intelligent software agents which are autonomous, proactive, flexible and robust. Th...

Hermes: Designing Goal-Oriented Agent Interactions

Interactions between agents are traditionally specified as interaction protocols using notations such as Petri nets, AUML, or finite state machines. These protocols are a poor fit with autonomous proactive agents since protocols are message-centric and do not support goals. Additionally, interaction protocols prescribe how interactions are carried out by agents, thus limiting the flexibility of...
