چکیده
Barnes, G. L., and Townley, R. R. W. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 343. Duodenal mucosal damage in 31 infants with gastroenteritis. Duodenal biopsies taken in the acute stage of gastroenteritis in 31 infants have shown histological abnormality and disaccharidase depression in the majority. In 5, mucosal damage was severe with changes similar to those seen in coeliac disease. Repeat biopsies in 3 of these showed marked improvement after 3 days, 8 days, and 7 weeks, respectively. Persisting sugar intolerance occurred in approximately 50% of patients under 6 months of age, but this complication bore no relation to disaccharidase depression in the acute stage of the illness.

Eosinophilic mucosal infiltrate in infants with congenital gastrointestinal obstruction.
Infiltration of the antrum and small bowel with eosinophils has been reported to be the etiologic factor for intestinal obstruction in adults with eosinophilic gastroenteritis. We report a case of a breast-fed 8-month-old infant with eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE), who presented with severe hematemesis and congenital obstruction of the duodenum, to emphasize that not all obstructive symptom...
متن کاملKlebsiella pneumoniae bacteraemia complicating rotavirus gastroenteritis in two infants with glucocorticoid deficiency.
Rotavirus gastroenteritis was complicated by Klebsiella Pneumoniae bacteraemia in two infants with glucocorticoid deficient conditions who were treated with 'stress dose' hydrocortisone during their illness. Delayed healing in the context of glucocorticoid administration combined with damage from rotavirus infection may result in increased risk of mucosal invasion by gastrointestinal bacteria a...
متن کاملA Case of Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis Forming a Rigid Chamber Mimicking Giant Duodenal Ulcer on Computed Tomography Imaging
BACKGROUND The clinical manifestations of eosinophilic gastroenteritis are nonspecific and vary depending on which layer of the gastrointestinal tract is involved. Computed tomography (CT) is valuable for detecting and characterizing gastrointestinal wall abnormalities. CASE REPORT We report a case of eosinophilic gastroenteritis that formed a chamber in the rigid duodenal wall of a 67-year-o...
متن کاملEnterobacter cloacae septicaemia complicating rotavirus gastroenteritis: a case report.
Rotavirus infections are a common cause of gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide. Although rotavirus gastroenteritis is usually self-limiting in healthy infants, approximately 33% of cases of severe diarrhoea require hospitalization (1). Small intestinal epithelium dysfunction during rotavirus gastroenteritis is well-documented. Enteric Gram-negative bacteraemia as a complicat...

Research advances during recent years offer new insight into therapy and the prevention of gastrointestinal ulcers by using medicinal plants. Flavonoids, tannins, triterpenoids, fatty acids and essential oils are among the most effective herbal constituents that have potential antiulcerogenic properties, and most of them could be found in Zataria multiflora. Z. multiflora</e...
